ROCAF officer reveals that even post upgrade, F-16A/B’s RWR cannot reliably react to PLAAF radar, providing neither accurate threat direction nor “lock on” warning. Is it any surprise that the Rafales got PL-15ed from extreme range now?
I don't see how that makes sense, because if one is comparing F-16A/B (even upgraded with V) with Rafale, the Rafale possessed by the IAF almost certainly has more sophisticated RWRs than ROCAF F-16A/Bs.
So the way in which ROCAF F-16A/B RWR reacts to PLAAF radars from other sources shouldn't really have any bearing on the degree of sophistication of Rafale's RWR and its ability to react to PL-15.
In fact I'm not sure what this has to do with Rafale and PL-15 to begin with -- just the acknowledgement that F-16A/B RWR faces challenges with PLAAF radars is already enough.
Putting it another way -- whether Rafale was susceptible to PL-15 utilized by PAF at range, is not merely dependent on RWR sophistication, so it's probably better to avoid linking the two.
If the argument is that PRC radar technology is competitive, then that makes sense but that also has been long accepted even before the IAF-PAF conflict last May.
