Sigh, not sure how they can even consider defending Taiwan if there weapons are designed to fail. I thought the USA has the best weapons?
It’s not the F16V’s problem. It’s an extremely green pilot that only spent most of his career flying F5s. He could not tell the difference between sky and water when he was commencing the dive attack.

J-10, J-11, J-15, J-16, H-6 have very high operating and maintenance costs. The too much use in Taiwan airspace will reduce its life and strength and can make them repeat the fate of F-16 falling.

If China wants to harass Taiwan, the effective solution is to use J-5 and J-7 aircraft, it's cheap, powerful and easy to produce mass

Of course, J-5 and J-7 are not opponents of F-16 and F-CK, but it's not a problem. Taiwan did not dare to shoot these planes, because it was a war declaration. China can to punish and attack them.

What do you think their gap is at the moment?
I imagine that ROCAF training standard is patterned after USAF training standard.
I don't imagine we have any statistics like mishaps per flight hour.

One issue that the news was complaining about was the interceptions from PRC was happening too often which was impacting ground crews/maintenance as well as flight crews. I believe it was posted that they would no longer scramble for smaller incursions.

Putting the deep politics aside, just look at the above. There is a manpower shortage, this is well-known. The government (both KMT and DPP) doesn't want to conscript further so they dangle higher pay and other incentives, but still no one wants to volunteer. This is making is harder and harder for the people in the armed forces right now, even in peacetime. People say these 70%, 80%, 100% of the population will suddenly turn into fearsome guerilla fighters once the PLA lands, but those are dreams, this is the reality.

The gap has significantly worsened after PLAAF started doing the ADIZ incursions. Instead of doing proper combat training, ROCAF pilots, even new ones, have essentially been forced to waste precious flight hours on routine intercepts. Manpower shortage is the least of their worries right now.

And those F-5 squadrons are basically shitty placeholders so that ROCAF do not lose more pilots. (Even though the quality of these F-5 pilots are very questionable)

Training on second/third generation aircraft is a bad idea. The pilot interface is vastly different than that of fourth/fifth generation aircraft, it can’t pull as many Gs so your pilots don’t get necessary G force handling training, and lack of FBW means that pilots use too much force on the control stick. In short it teaches pilots too many bad habits that they need to unlearn later. There is a reason that PLAAF is sending getting combat pilots to fly on L-15 or even J-10 right after basic flight training.

The instrument is useless if the pilots did not know and were not teach what to make of it.
J16 isnt fly by wire upgraded yet?
I was playing a crappy f35 sim 20 years ago that wouldnt even let you ditch into the ocean even if you wanted to crash on purpose

China can use J-5 and J-7 to harass Taiwan. But Taiwan cannot use F-5 to harass or intercept China's aircraft.

China holds the active position, and Taiwan is not.
