I actually hope the corrupt KMT evaporates. But if it does the DPP, who reportedly are also rather corrupt, may not be the only option for Taiwanese. If/when the mainland takes over, what do you think of the CPC's chances of winning over the islanders, especially the younger ones?
But why does CPC need to win over the Islanders? If winning hearts and minds is the goal then the military option for reunification would never exist and China would go for soft power approach & demand a referendum. But that's not the case. The Islanders can either cooperate or fight. That's about it.

Very good. Guaranteed; the only question is how long it takes. People don't like to be losers and they don't always want to be cheering losers to see their own hopes dashed. If China can make an environment where it's just too sad to be anti-China (like in Hong Kong) as you see all of your heros (traitors in your country and Western nations that you idolized) being continuously defeated by China with no chance of effective rebuttal, they will first enter a phase where they say things like, "If they can't even get XXX together, they deserve to be beaten by China," to take themselves out of sympathy with the losing team. Then, as China controls the media in the ROC, they will see Chinese heroes doing more and more things that are amazing and at world competitions raising the Chinese flag, playing the Chinese song. Then they will start to rationalize that this belongs to them; they should be a part of this pride and joy. They aren't losers and they arn't onlookers anymore; it makes sense that they join the winning team and win as well. That's they only way they can become happy and that's when China will win them over.

When I was a kid growing up in NYC, at first, lots of New Yorkers were die-hard Nicks fans. So was I. But then, they just sucked more and more and it was depressing as hell. Every time, every game, it was a let down. Soon, New Yorkers all had thier different favorite teams, Lakers, Bulls, Pacers (yuck), etc... because they wanted to pick a winning team to cheer for even if it doesn't really belong to them. (You didn't see this, at least not in such numbers, in Los Angeles or Chicago because they had their winning teams to cheer for that truly made sense.) It would be even easier for the Taiwanese youth to make the switch because China truly belongs to them and it makes sense. The language, culture, and blood all make sense.

a small but less corrupt KMT will actually work in CCP's favour. I suspect some in Beijing are also rooting for KMT to be pummeled. KMT as it is now is fragmented and weak. but if it were to come under even greater pressure from DPP, to the point of becoming an existential crisis, then it is possible that KMT could jump ship at time of war in the straits and hasten Taiwan's defeat.

That may happen. I think you're right that time will help the CPC. And I hope when the mainland takes control, it will purge the KMT and DPP and choose its own people to manage the small province. Maybe the Taiwanese will come to realize that their new government is noticeably more effective, less corrupt. In time, perhaps the islanders will come to appreciate the CPC. I don't know if my hope is realistic or if I am dreaming.

My hope is that the people will cooperate after the fight. :)

True I agreed with what you said my friend. But here lies part of the problem. That the religious freaks who has been indoctrinated in worshipping the Judeo-Christian cult so much that they are willing to kill "Communist China" just to get acceptance from their western friends and fellow worshippers. It plays into the hands of the Western MSM that their way is the ONLY right way and narrative view on modern China.

Those are the easiest to deal with. They are extremists and very few of them. When they try to commit murder, they get put away for life or executed. The extremism brought by thier religion forces them to come out into unfavorable confrontations that they cannot win so they can be removed from society. Much easier to deal with than those who hide and slowly disseminate venom until they are actively hunted down requiring intensive physical and cyber sleuthing.
