I watched the first episode of War of the Worlds on Epix Channel. This is the British-French one that takes place in modern times not the other one that takes place in Edwardian England. It was a free airing to tease people to subscribe to the channel. I don't really care to pay to watch anymore. In the end of the episode, you expected to see something of the aliens but all they showed was an aurora borealis type of event happening after the alien craft landed and anybody who wasn't in shelter were killed. No giant alien tripods. From what I gathered on the internet, the aliens are all in alien tripod exo-armor not tripod vehicles. Normally they will spend a little more money on the pilot episode to make it look good to hook people. They didn't even bother. Nothing interesting of the characters that stood out either.

So because of the stay at home order, I happened to binge watch War of the Worlds because Direct TV raised their prices but happened to include EPIX channel to my service package now. Tonight's the season finale. So what's going on so far is Gabriel Byrne plays a scientist who accidentally kills the husband of his estranged ex who he's still in love with while trying to save her from the invasion and doesn't tell her. There's a young woman who has to find her teen son where the father is her brother who raped her when she was young and the son seems to be a psychopath as well. There are other groups with their own family dramas where I suspect there's some connection with the other groups but where are the aliens? So far there have been only these Boston Dynamic type robot quadruped dogs invading France and Great Britain where they can fire bullets and shoot a bolt into your head like cattle at a slaughterhouse if you're wounded and on the floor. Apparently they seem to be the hunting dogs of the aliens so I assume tonight's season finale we'll finally see the aliens. They haven't shown any Tripod vehicles. So this whole season has been a bunch of character development. I don't know if there's another season but if it gets cancelled, this has be one of the most non-science fiction science fiction shows ever.

Those tv versions of 'War of the Worlds' are disappointing IMO. it made the Spielberg? version starring Tom Cruise look pretty good.
My preference was the film made in the 50's or was it the 60's.

1953. A Classic. I have to disagree though, no matter how bad the TV shows are they'll never stoop as low as the Tom Cruise debacle, the scriptwriters for that movie were overdosing on stupid pills when they dreamed that mess up. Plot holes you can drive a super tanker through!

Well I saw the season finale... I am not surprised. Why do they even call it War of the Worlds when it can be any alien invasion movie that is not War of the Worlds. And the only thing similar to War of the Worlds was the depiction of meteors crashing onto the Earth in the beginning and it's unclear if they were alien craft because you didn't see tripods nor any aliens emerging from them. Everything else is not recognizable to War of the Worlds. I can only imagine they didn't have a budget. Even the alien robot dogs when they fired their weapons, it was off screen most of the time and you just heard the sound effect of a bullet being fired and whizzing by. I always watch bad shows hoping they would get better. It never happens. Also there was an "alien" in the end. Disappointing.
