With the F-35 we talk about the first few hundred units, as useless for even training.

They will do good service as static display , I'm sure
sorry son your bias is blinding you. The couple dozen yes but the latter batches until the current one can be refit with updates and upgrades. The US model is to buy then upgrade as it progresses.

Russian air forces are far more limited in buys. Every aircraft they buy at max a just over a hundred then move to export. As such each production SU57 counts far more to the program than batches. It is a requirement of the service based on needs including not exempting budget. If you believe that you can build as many as you like without considering budget you are delusional.

Yes, and unfortunately my first sources were wrong about it being a pre-production prototype, (bad enough), but heartbreakingly it is 001 the first actual production aircraft scheduled to be inducted into the Air Force. I did know that Deino was speaking to me, and I had a family Christmas Dinner last night, and when I got home, I could not log on??

(said the site was down)??

Anyway, as Terrain stated this is a heart break for our "Flanker Friends", sounds like an FCS failure, the fact that he attempted to recover from 8 thousand meters, and even attempted a "manual override" and still couldn't recover is damning indeed, thankfully she didn't go full bore and he was able to "punch out" successfully....

So we will get to the bottom of this

It is early days and best to reserve judgment beyond what is known.

It is clearly a set back. Given that it is the first production unit a manufacturing defect is more probable than a design issue. If it is the former then the problem may not be as significant.

Yes, and it seems that he a lost pitch control, but maybe the whole thing. So hopefully something simple, recall the F-22 had similar issues with pitch leading back to FCS

A software issue seems unlikely (that alternate control laws didn't help also points in this direction), and any changes for the production version should have first been validated in one of the prototypes anyway. OTOH crossed wires (think Flugbereitschaft Global 5000) generally manifest soon if not immediately after take-off - this flight reportedly reached a non-trivial altitude before things went pear-shaped.

If I had to guess the cause will most likely be some sort of mechanical failure - improperly installed wiring that chafed in a hurry, unsecured connector that simply came loose, contamination blocking a moving part (I'm looking at you, Boeing)... ending in a control surface hardover.

I concur! that was my first thought as well....

Nice edit. But it needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

The video is a montage of a number of videos with post production radio chatter. Because of the camera change and cut it can hide a bit of slide of hand. We see a T50 rocket into a zoom climb then cut. Then we see T50 with a missile clearly on the right side. It fires. That missile is supposed to be from the fighters intern side bay. Yet we don’t see the door. One shot is a clean fighter the next it has a missile.
