One of Russia’s cutting-edge Su-57 fighter jets has crashed during routine factory test flights near the Komsomolsk-on-Amur aircraft plant in the Far East. The pilot ejected safely and was picked up by a Mi-8 rescue helicopter.
The aircraft involved in the incident belonged to the manufacturer and was undergoing a series of flight tests some 110 kilometers of Dzyomgi air base in Russia's Khabarovsk region.
There were no casualties or damage on the ground, the manufacturer confirmed in a brief statement. The crashed jet's black boxes are yet to be recovered.
I initially assumed it was a prototype testing the new engines but some links I read on the Russian forum suggest it was a production bird. Could be wrong or I could have misread.I don't think we really know which aircraft, the only thing stated is that it belonged to the factory test fleet?? so it could have been any of them, even the early pre production birds??
I took an interest myself;If it was the jet undergoing factory trials, was it the first 'serial' production bird?
Yes, its one of the pre-production prototypes, hopefully not 055, as she is one of my favorites, with a civilian test pilot according to Fox News, Russia....I took an interest myself;
says, my translation of Источник агентства сообщил, что упавший Су-57 не принадлежал
"According to a source, the aircraft wasn't the property of the Ministry of Defense and was flown by a civilian pilot."
and goes on
По его словам, на этой неделе должна состояться поставка Минобороны первого серийного Су-57.
"According to that source, a delivery of the first serial Su-57 should happen this week."
and it seems they talk the same aircraft, based on what I read elsewhere which is
Reuters says the lost bird was a production aircraft, not a prototype:Yes, its one of the pre-production prototypes, hopefully not 055, as she is one of my favorites, with a civilian test pilot according to Fox News, Russia....
The lost plane was one of the first to be mass-produced and was due to be handed over to the Russian air force by the end of this year, the Interfax news agency reported, citing a source.
the second Russian link Today at 4:22 PMYes, its one of the pre-production prototypes, hopefully not 055, as she is one of my favorites, with a civilian test pilot according to Fox News, Russia....
As noted the first production aircraft is scheduled to deliver today, this will put a damper on the ceremonies, in fact the factory bird was likely going to be doing a formation fly by with the first production aircraft would be my best guess? but that's just me putting the pieces together??? so we shall see what the circumstances were, but I wouldn't be a bit surprised if that bird was to be part of today's festivities.....
