This trend of extensive composites started with B787 due peak oil from early 2000 time period. now reliability and uptime is more important. MS-21 will have to take role of wide body. It has to fly at longer and at higher cruise speed with more comfort than Tu-214.
It's functionally impossible. Check, say, (critical) Moscow Beijing line alone.
Just won't work.

When Soviet Union entered the Cold War with in full force (late 1950s)- sure, there were IICBMs, space program, iron curtain, soviet merchant marine and soviet navy. But just as important was civilian long haul.

Tu-114 was one of the symbols, but equally it was a prerequisite of great power thing. Russia is no different.
If a country wants to struggle with the west while relying on China, India, Middle East, Africa and SEA - it has to be able to reach them, comfortably, at scale and efficiently.

If chinese businessmen will have to reach Moscow on dog sleds - they'll probably look elsewhere first.

Russia is not Soviet Union infact It is complete opposite more than any other country so product it develops reflect that reality.
They mentioned MS21 wide-body comfort level and most of distance to eastern Chinese cities is 6,000 km. so any version with 8000 to 9000km already cover it. 4,600km can be covered by Sukhoi SJ which has even higher speed and comparable comfort with A320.
This time they want to have competition with Kazan. We have to see how far they develop Tu-214. Russian government uses Tu-214 for long distance flights.

Rostec names the MS-21's advantages over its foreign competitors.​

"A significant advantage of the MC-21 is its high level of passenger comfort, thanks to its wider fuselage compared to the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. For the first time in its class, the aircraft has reached a level of comfort only available to wide-body airliners: it has a more spacious aisle, larger overhead bins, and larger windows," Rostec explained.

Kazan aircraft manufacturers have created the medium-haul Tu-214 airliner with a record-breaking flight range of over 10,000 km.​

"No other aircraft in this class in the world has such a range; the basic model's range of 7,200 km has been exceeded by 50%," the adviser emphasized. "This success was achieved through the joint efforts of the development team, Tupolev, and the manufacturer, KAPO." Moreover, according to Kireyev, the record distance was achieved with the same engine, not by reducing the aircraft's weight, but by "improving its aerodynamic properties."

I.e. even the single most important long haul flight for Russia right now(even for China there are also Shanghai, Guangzhou/Shenzhen/HK) is beyond what's reasonable for MS both in range and internal capacity(2x2 flights per day, soon to be 3x2).
Add further, equally important locations - and it just doesn't make sense.

Since the day when western leasers cut their contracts with Russiian airlines, there's literally no choice - presense of such airliner for Russia is a basic requirement going into 2030s. Right now it works on existing aircraft and international airlines - but this can't last forever.

Tu-214 with time increased its range decades ago. Tu-214R/SR/PU/PM are among the most sophisticated planes in Russian aviation industry. long loitering times. Even the smaller Tu-204 from Roscosmos routinely goes South.

Ah, these. But 500/600 can't be anything but wide body. Numbers refer to length class after all.

look at passenger numbers. 240 to 260. they are trying to build intermediate size planes. aka Boeing 797 but with long range. This info about MS-21-500 was released before they made claim that current MS-21-310 meets wide body comfort.
Russia also working on Supersonic aircraft that will make ticket available not only for First Class passenger but business class also. if such plane succesful. there is no need for oversize wide body planes.

The Second Coming, or No Need to Clap: Are Supersonic Passenger Jets Making a Comeback?​

Strizh: Russia's first technological swallow​

As reported to TASS by the press service of the National Research Center "Zhukovsky Institute", the center is currently working on a supersonic civil aircraft as part of the integrated scientific and technological project "Supersonic Aircraft with a Low Environmental Impact" (KNTP "SGS"). The development is being carried out under government contracts concluded with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. Leading Russian specialized institutes that are part of the center are participating in this work: the N.Ye. Zhukovsky Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI), the P.I. Baranov Central Institute of Aviation Motors (TsIAM), the State Research Institute of Aviation Systems (GosNIIAS), the S.A. Chaplygin Siberian Research Institute of Aviation (SibNIA), and the L.K. Safronov State Scientific Test Range of Aviation Systems (GkNIPAS). The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) and the United Engine Corporation (UEC) are also participating in the work.
"The work is aimed at creating a scientific and technological foundation for a high level of technology readiness (HLT), including the creation and testing of technology demonstrators close to full-scale objects, one of which is the flight demonstrator of the SGS Strizh technology complex (DKT Strizh)," the press service added.

"Supertech Set"​

As the center explained, the SGS developers are seeking compromises between the required aerodynamics of the future aircraft, weight efficiency, and environmental constraints. One promising area is new design solutions, particularly the use of polymer composite materials. This could not only reduce weight but also improve flight safety thanks to integrated condition monitoring and predictive diagnostic systems.
The use of neural network algorithms will allow for maximum automation of aircraft control functions at all stages of flight, while halving the workload on pilots by automating typical (routine) operations and providing recommendations to the crew.

"By implementing our scientific advances in the form of intelligent aircraft control technologies in the future GSS, most tasks can be accomplished without human intervention in the control loop, implementing the concept of automatic control 'from the departure terminal to the arrival terminal,'" added the N.E. Zhukovsky Institute Research Center. "The pilot will be present in the cockpit as a controller or decision maker, thus ensuring the required level of flight safety."

"The SGS is not just a next-generation aircraft of this class, but a set of super-technologies," the center's press service told TASS.
It is planned that the bulk of passenger traffic will be made up of passengers currently flying on subsonic business and first class aircraft. Accordingly, the passenger capacity of future SGSs will be significantly smaller than that of subsonic long-haul passenger aircraft.

Gazprom has broken its February record for daily gas supplies from the Unified Gas Supply System three times.
On February 3, 1,817.8 million cubic meters of gas were delivered to Russian consumers.
Gazprom broke its historical record for daily gas supplies for February from the Unified Gas Supply System of Russia for three days in a row – on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
The previous maximum was recorded at 1,799.9 million cubic meters. High gas consumption is due to cold weather in many regions of the country.
Supplies via Gazprom's gas transmission system are carried out reliably, in part thanks to the operation of underground gas storage facilities.

Tunnel construction under the Bering Strait: a new super goal for the Russian policy in APR?​

The tunnel​

The shortest distance between the Asian and American coasts is 84 km. The tunnel length can make from 98 to 113 km, taking into account the access parts. This is, of course, a long distance, but there are two islands on the proposed route – the Ratmanov Island (Bid Diomede) and the Krusenstern Island (Little Diomede). They allow dividing the tunnel into three separate sections thus significantly facilitating the execution of necessary technical tasks.
The surrounding infrastructure
From the Russian side a railroad Yakutsk –Uelen has to come up to the tunnel and its length can make from 3850 to 4020 km depending on the route. After the completion of railroad Berkakit- Tommot-Yakuts, Yakuts-Uelen section will be joint with Trans-Siberia and Baikal-Amur railways. From the American side a railway from Nom (near the Bering Strait) to Fort Nelson with the length of 1925 km will be made to reach the tunnel. Later on this section will be connected to railroads of Alaska and Canada.
In total the length of the railway shall make 5873–6058 km, and its construction together with the tunnel shall take 15 years. In case of a successful completion of all necessary works the annual transportation capacity can make 60-70 ml. tons raw materials (to compare – the current annual capacity of the Northern Sea Route is 10-12 mln.tons). Moreover, the railway will be used for intra-continental and trans-continental passenger traffic.

The Russian vector​

In early XXI century Russia definitely understood the need “to go east” and the readiness of its Asian-Pacific partners to acknowledge the country in its new capacity. Russia-ASEAN summits were launched, Russia became a member of East-Asia summit attended by the heads of states and governments from the leading subjects of the regional policy and Russia participated in the Meetings of Defense Ministers ASEAN+8. Relations between Russia and China, Japan, Republic of Korea and countries of South-East Asia develop positively. All the above can be regarded as a plus for Russia in its Asian-Pacific policy.

Russia has developed a multi-environment robotic system—an unmanned boat, an underwater drone, a ground-based electric all-terrain vehicle, and an aerostat—that can be launched even in flight restrictions and jammed communications. Working together, the systems can monitor environmental conditions, fires, and security perimeters, and deploy repeater transmitters. Scientists from the V.A. The government will create a ranking of companies based on their contribution to demographics.​

The analysis will take into account metrics such as the number of children under six years of age among employees, as well as other demographic indicators. The initiative's primary goal is to "improve the effectiveness of corporate demographic support practices for employees with children."

They want to create Business and short version of Tu-214 that can have ranges from 8,000 to 9,000km. This is already entering wide body category for 80% of routes. There already unification of cockpit between Sukhoi Superjet and MS-21. and Tu-214 will not be that far far behind. MS-21 will have to really outperform to compete with Tu-214. fuel is not that expensive on current prices.

At the 10th National Civil Aviation Infrastructure Exhibition (NAIS), held in February 2023, UAC CEO Yuri Slyusar announced that the corporation would introduce cargo and shortened versions of the Tu-214 aircraft. The shortened business version of the aircraft will have a range of up to 9,000 km, while the passenger version will have a range of 7,000-8,000 km. This will improve territorial connectivity by providing direct, nonstop flights from the European part of the country to destinations in the Far East.

Vadim Korolev, head of the UAC, confirmed this information in an interview, specifying that the shortened version of the Tu-214 will be based on the Tu-204-300 aircraft. "This model could become an efficient aircraft for long-distance flights, such as Moscow-Vladivostok," he added.
A cargo version of the aircraft could be developed on a voluntary basis, said the head of PJSC Tupolev. Such a modification could potentially be used for transporting cargo on domestic and international routes, added Vadim Korolev.
this first time three Civilian planes went to India. SJ-100, SSJ-100 Business and IL Turbo prop. All went through UAE and took long routes to reach Southern Indian airshow.

It is based on an end-to-end process chain: from the extraction and processing of lithium and rare earth metals needed to produce battery components to the creation of turnkey solutions—batteries, electric drives, charging systems, and digital service platforms. This approach ensures technological sovereignty and minimizes dependence on external suppliers," Bukhvalov emphasized.
"It's important to understand that electric mobility is much broader than just passenger cars. Today, this term encompasses a wide range of applications: freight and public transport, special equipment, watercraft, and even personal mobility devices like electric scooters, e-bikes, and more. This broad range of applications demonstrates that electric traction is gradually becoming a universal standard for all transport," Bukhvalov noted.
Solid-state lithium-ion and lithium-metal batteries are currently being actively developed, and their performance is already approaching or exceeding the level of leading foreign models. At the same time, a new area is being launched—the creation of solid-state and gel-polymer batteries based on sodium and potassium. These technologies are the next generation of energy storage devices and should reduce battery costs and reduce dependence on scarce lithium," Bukhvalov noted.
"We are laying the groundwork to ensure that innovative Russian batteries become not only competitive on the global market but even superior to many foreign counterparts," Bukhvalov explained.

Skoltech will develop 6G by 2030​

Alexey Frolov, Director of the Wireless Communications and Internet of Things Project Center at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), announced this yesterday, December 18, during a roundtable discussion titled "Telecommunications Infrastructure as the Foundation of Technological Sovereignty and Digital Development." He stated that Skoltech is developing sixth-generation (6G) network technologies, and when they are needed, the institute will provide experimental samples ready to serve as prototypes.
"Currently, 5G Advanced is being developed and 3GPP releases 18 through 20 are underway.
