Reinstating Gatekeeper, senior member of the forum

Gatekeeper should be reinstated, his ban is long enough for corrections

Where is Gatekeeper when you need him?...
I think permanent ban without any recourse is just too significant to be imposed by a single moderator. Just saying.
Yes, please Gatekeeper is a valuable contributor especially in Hong Kong matters. He has always been civil in his postings, and the "infraction" weren't really that malignant, it was more like a mistake to me. I think there is definitely at least a discussion to be had to allow Gatekeeper to continue to contribute to this forum. Just my opinion.
My sentiments as well.
@Gatekeeper is no fake news troller or flamebaiter.
His fault if as stated by @daifo is true, is a common weakness for a lot of us.

I feel his long years of contributions to this forum would go a long way to mitigate his errors.
Anybody here know of a way to poll how many would like to have @Gatekeeper permanent ban commuted to 3 months?
There is (was?) a certain forum member who was well known for sparring with Gatekeeper who had made a comment to me that "CCP's poverty alleviation was just a mirage", all fake. Really ticked me off by insinuating that a charity that friends of my family run was a joke because it's not dedicated to the destruction of the evil communist party.
Yes #ResurrectGatekeeper.
The ban was done in haste and likely prejudicial by select moderator.
Still do not get reason why the ban was harsh and swift for a minor infringment.
Where is Gatekeeper to provide insights to this topic?
PLEASE UN-BAN Gatekeeper.

Not even sure if the ban was justified for posting social media post when so many here also do the same.
Just my opinion, prob should give 12 months ban to senior members rather than perm ban. At that point, a member is unlikely trolling but just reading too much social media and suffering from some emotional outburst
He got perma-banned for being too based. I miss him and his matter-of-fact attitude. SinoDefenceForum hasn't been the same since he left.
I wish Gatekeeper was here because I know he would be posting every comment on there in the funny stuff thread. Lmao
Gatekeeper was banned unfortunately. We've had a lot of news posts about how the new Hong Kongers have been treated over here. Personally, I recall seeing one playing an instrument on a city centre market street for money.
I hope @Gatekeeper is still here to explain this, a taste of their owned medicine? are these the recent arrived HKG immigrant being targeted?

He was banned permanently after repeated warnings...

I am inclined to reconsider but it would have to be a request from Gatekeeper.

Is there a mechanism by which he can request to be reinstated?

Since he has been banned from this forum, there might not be a way for him to properly reach you on this forum.

Since political discussions are effectively allowed again, are you or other moderators going to update/amend the SDF rules of behaviors to reflect the new standards, especially the forbidden topic sections?

It's very much outdated. Certain old rules are already long abandoned such as "what if" nuclear war discussion involving China, China vs India and discussion of purely political issues. Updating the rules of behaviors could reflect the reality of SDF better and make it clear to members what is allowed. It might even cut down on meaningless reporting. For Gatekeeper, we could even add a rule that banned members can be reinstated due to popular demand.

Hey, I just cast my vote, and after 35 votes, there were only 2 votes that wanted this ban to be in place.

That is truly revealing because there was one YES option and two NO option and this was still almost a shut out.

Logically, for the sake of the forum, a running business, those two NO votes should be banned, haha!

Or, alternatively, the forum can ban the 33 people who voted YES.

All I really want to say, is that with any forum, it is usually about the posters.

:D

We can survive with obvious contradictions in life because we know how to read the landscape and work within confines of reality. The flagship threads has self-censorship with member reports on OT and political posts, and member-areas threads are quarantined shit-shows, but that's fine. This forum is still one of the highest quality forums due to this self-regulation capacity and a healthy respect for Deino's and Jeff's ban hammer. Gatekeeper had to learn the hard way to respect repeated warnings, no amount of written rules can fix stupid.

I didn't follow well the case how Gatekeeper got banned or why there's such a strong sentiment to bring him back. So I would speak in a general manner.

We are an amateur forum discussing mainly military affair of China or we call China watching. We have rules to conduct our behavior and keep the forum civilized and clean. However, we aren't government body. So everything can be flexible. It's not like you violate the forum rules then you are sentenced to death. We do not have death sentence to forum members except those trolls and spammers.

So for the case of Gatekeeper, if he hopes to come back, the 'gate' is always opened for him and he can stay to be the 'keeper' of the forum just as any other of us. Welcome back, Gatekeeper!
