USS Lexington revisited.

Glad they redid the paint job on several aircraft.

Finally! Getting some gas in Boise for below $2.00 per gallon (while friends in OKC get it at $1.29, and down in Houston it is $1.36). But that's fine, that is there and this is here and I am happy to be south of $2.00 per gallon here. Stay safe out there!

Well, it has been almost ten years since we purchased a new TV.

We did something about that yesterday.

I wanted to get a newer one with a browser built in. Not just a "Smart" TV with Apps, but one that would let me browse the internet and stream stuff on the internet without either having to go to my PC, or having to connect my Laptop.

So, we narrowed it down to either a Samsung or an LG. Both looked great.

We ultimately decided on a Samsung J6200 40" TV. It's a 1080P. We do not need a "large" TV of 48" or more. 40" is bigger than the 32" we had, and fits perfectly into our space in the living room. we also did not want to spend the money to go 4k.

They are normally about $500 dollars, but we found one on Amazon for $367. We then called a local Best Buy because they have a price match policy and they agreed to sell one of the three they had for that price.

So off we went.

As we got near, the wife said, "Why don't we stop at Costco and see what deals they have?" Costco does not advertise like that online...so we did stop.

They did not have a J6200. The had the older J5200 and they were a little cheaper...but no browser on those models.

I heard my wife call..."Here's one Jeff."

I went to look and it was a J6400 which is Samsung's new 4k model. I told her it was 4k and would be too expensive.

Indeed, the normal price was like $800 for the 40".

But...Costco had it on sale for $499, which included a 2-year in house warranty.

This was still $130 more than we were planning to spend and I told my wife..."Look, it's too expensive. Of course I would love to get it...it has a lot of additional features (USB 3 ports, 3 HDMI ports, a plug in for a camera, etc., etc...not to mention the 4k resolution). But I am not going to go home and here any complaints about "we spent too much.""

"If we get this TV...it is all on you. I am ready right now to go to Best Buy."

The salesman said, "Dude, what's wrong with you?...Can't you see she wants it?"

I said to him, "Dude...I've been married to her happily for 38 years. So I know her. I am not going to encourage it an go home and hear complaining...which by the way, you will not have to live with."

About that time, Gail picked up the TV, put it in our large cart...and away she went to the check out line!

You heard no more complaints from me.

Hehehe...we got home about 2PM and I spent the next four hours going through every little feature...and got it all programmed up and working fine.

I have to say...this is by far the nicest TV we have ever had. That 4k is simply amazing.

...and it is working very well. I am loving it!

Do you already have content that supports 4K? I must say I'm not up-to-date on that topic. Is there, for example, any kind of "up-conversion" of "Full HD" content?
And, did you also invest in any kind of 3D capability with it?
Sorry to bug you ... :)

When I graduated from High School my first job was working in a gas station in Cincinnati OH. Regular Unleaded went for .38 cents a gallon in 1971 money. which calculates to;

What cost $.38 in 1971 would cost $2.25 in 2015.

According to this inflation calculator.

I worked here in the summer of 1971 before joining the USN. The place still somehwt resembles the orginal structure.

It looks very nice TV, my TV is a bit old (ish), bought in 2012 50in Panasonic Plasma, very nice TV but I never surfed internet with it, just too slow.

Wondering whether 4K TV is common in the US and whether many TV channels supported it ?

Really amazing nowadays what US$499 you could buy, very very nice modern stuff

Hey Jeff, don't kill me but I don't like 4K. Not that it's not good. On the Contrary, a 4K would look absolutely stunning IF you can find source material that's also 4K. Sadly, most of the media that we get nowadays is still standard 2K, i.e. 1080p. Almost all the BD discs are still 1080p and most the HD cable/satellite feed is still 720p or at most 1080i. As the saying goes, garbage in garbage out. Although 2K is not garbage, you will never make 2K signal look like 4K even if you have a 4K tv. That's why I have decided to wait on the 4K tv. Even though I always drool over those 4K TV's every time we go to Besy Buy, I refuse to buy it. I'm waiting for them to churn out more 4K material.

Actually, I think there is a debate as to whether it is necessary to go 4K. Can our eyes pick out the differences? That, I don't know...

Anyway... Super happy that you love the new tv! I am a videophile and LOVE these A/V toys. Back in the day when we used to have those gigantic box TVs, so-called rear projection TVs (early 2000's), I used to do calibrations for my neighbors. Those TVs are never at their optimal out of box. You have to literally take it apart and manually calibrate it. I used to spend hours tweaking my 51" Hitachi. In fact, that Hitachi is still in my house even though we now have several bigger and better TVs throughout the house. I still take it apart the tweak it when I get bored.

Too bad that I can't do the same tweaking to my new LED ones. They come as they are and you can't tweak them... I think back in the day, the factory actually expected costumers to do their own tweaking. Nowadays? They don't want you to mess wth it. They actually hide all their parameters and you can't even access them without factory passwords...
