My guess is that the purpose of the hole on the buffer tube is to drain out the water trapped inside the rifle. Many AR15’s have something like that since it was part of the original design, but the positioning of the hole is different from the one you are asking about.

The barrel attachment in the 2nd and 3rd photos - is this the muzzle cover seen in previously released photos?

Or is this one some type of brake / suppressor?

Look at the wear and tear...looks like they do run their ware hard, I must say.
And that they run it with EOTECH EXPS series holosight...guess the 5.8mm and 5.56mm has similar ballistic profile at 300m?
