The caption in the picture says 16 cell VLS at the front, with another 48 cells at the back, giving 64 cells in total.

Could be old style HQ16 cells, but would make a lot more sense to install the new universal cells in my view.

It seems to be keeping the deck top AShM launchers up front, but mostly covered now, with an opening to vent exhaust when launching.

Looks reasonable enough. How reliable is the source of this?
See my comment.

The pennant number tells you that this is not a real pic. It is a PS of the old PLAN ship the way someone thinks it will be.

I will wait for the actual refit to see what they did.

Yeah, it was a pretty obvious PS. I assumed it was a mock up done to show what the ships would look like after the refurbishment, which is why I was asking after the reliability of the source to see if its someone in the know dropping us hints or just a guess of fans.

Pics from A.Man's post at "https://www.sinodefenceforum.com/plan-breaking-news-pictures-and-videos.t7079/page-48" (or if mod would move that post to this thread)

(Quite) a bit of speculations / assumptions here but we shall soon find out

China's PLAN Upgrading its Project 956E Destroyers with VLS and YJ-12A Anti-Ship Missiles
Recent images from China are showing two People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) Project 956E Sovremennyy destroyers undergoing major refit and upgrade. It appears that the PLAN is upgrading its class of four destroyers (two 956E followed by two improved 956EM) acquired from Russia with domestic systems.

Would be a nice upgrade on these beasts.
Hopefully it happens.
But seeing yj12 is from 2015 i think it perfectly fits in this time sheet of the upgrade of hanghzou.

They removed enough stuff to have it sit that high above the waterline, but not major enough to spend time in drydock, so it's obvious that the power system left unchanged, but the whole weapon suites and sensor suites are removed.

The hype right now is that there's a possibility to get VLS upgrades, main guns standardise with the rest of the current generation fleet arsenal, and replace the Moskit...guess we'll know by the 3rd quarter of this year perhaps.

Interesting.

32 x HQ-16C
08 x YJ-12A

Will be a good fit for these vessels.

I wonder if they will add Type 1130 CIWS?

I can see them keeping the Russian 130mm guns...but possibly also go to their own new 130mm guns?
