PLAN SCS Bases/Islands/Vessels (Not a Strategy Page)

Siegecrossbow, if truth is good defense, then my post is in good company. Generally speaking, I take post positive as well as negative messages vis-a-vis CCP and China, because I see both the good and the bad.

I'm not sure why you aren't already banned yet, to be honest. That kind of talk on this kind of forum is about as flamebaiting as it gets.

To be fair Blackstone consistently makes some insightful points but it is also abundantly clear he/she is a CCP hater.

Blackstone's post about the PLA and PLAN personnel has been deleted as have replies to it.

Blackstone, irrespective of your political leanings, and your comments that often support the PRC and its future, even you must know that to blatantly post that their soldiers are "rent-a-cops." and that that the people of the PRC are being oppressed by their own forces is bound to cause trouble on this forum and with members who are here from the PRC and support their country and their form of government...whether you are or I agree with it or not.

I have found the people of the PRC to be very proud of their accomplishments, and many of them they have every right to be proud of...whether we agree with the one party rule of the CP or not.

In any case, SD is NOT a place for political wrangling.

You have been warned about this type of thing before.

Therefore, you are receiving two week suspension from SD.

Do not post during that time or the length will be made longer...and after two such attempts, it will be permanent.

Also, please do not come back and continue such postings. It will lead to longer suspensions and ultimately a permanent ban. You have too much to contribute to allow that to happen.

DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS MODERATION

I doubt that. From my experience over the years on this forum, certain members are more equal than others.
Well, you are wrong. Be careful about how you post regarding the Moderation of this forum. The rules provide an avenue for it...and this type of thing is not it.

If you have a problem with any specific moderation, contact either the moderator in question via PM, or one of the other Moderators and explain your grievance to them and let the forum management take care of it.

I quote from SD Rules:

SD Rules of Behavior said:
Do not quote or respond to moderator posts. If you have issue with one, PM that moderator, or another about it. Be advised: Moderators have a forum where actions are discussed..

That's how we try and operate and it has worked fine for years.

Do we make everyone perfectly happy? No...that would not really be possible with this many members over this many years, and with some of the contention that arises.

But we do make our best, non-aligned and fair efforts to do so. Most would agree that SD is fairly and professionally moderated as a result...and not just me, but Popeye, Siege, Tphuang, Sampan, and all of the others as well..

Thanks.

Thanks for the reminder Jeff. I do apologize for stating my observations on moderation so blatantly and not through the proper channel. I guess I was frustrated by the amount of baiting he could get away with. And I will say this again and have said this before that SDF's moderation is much better than many other western centric forums.

However, IMO moderators are just not as sensitive to anti-china political flame baits from western centric members. Blackstone is a perfect example. His postings often have political tangents embedded within that can easily and often lead to off topic discussions. Not to mention the consistent use of loaded terms such as red dynasty in many of his ramblings. I mean he had the confidence to issue a challenge to another member asking moderators to judge the merits of an argument with the loser being banned. You only issued sanctions after he claimed PLA is a rent-cop oppressing Chinese people. Does one have be this obvious in order for moderators to show up?

From my personal experience, often time the only recourse for china centric members is to put members with strong china bashing tendencies on ignore list instead of waiting for moderators to do something about their baiting behaviours. I don't know if you agree but to me this is not really a level playing field.

As there is a power disparity between members and moderators, private messaging moderators about moderation issues isn't exactly an ideal venue. I hope there will be more transparent ways to discuss perceived moderation issues.

Finally, I would say I intended no offence to you personally. I respect you and enjoy many insights you brought to SDF.

Taipei, Aug. 16 (CNA) Interior Minister Yeh Jiunn-rong (葉俊榮) led officials and scholars on a visit to Taiping Island on Tuesday, hoping to underscore Taiwan's sovereignty over the island and establish it as a climate change research base.

Yeh arrived on the island -- the biggest in the Spratlys in the South China Sea -- accompanied by Coast Guard and land administration officials, climate change experts, and researchers participating in a Ministry of Science and Technology South China Sea research project.

In addition to asserting Taiwan's sovereignty over the island, the visit was aimed at setting up long-term observation facilities there and seeking opportunities for global cooperation on climate issues, according to the ministry.

The observation post can be operated by an international team, and the information gathered can be shared with the international community, ministry officials said Monday.

Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu (陳菊) said Tuesday that Taiping Island is under the jurisdiction of Kaohsiung and officials from her city also took part in Tuesday's trip and were scheduled to install an address plaque that reads "Nansha No. 2" on the island's hospital building.

The Spratly Islands are also known as the Nansha Islands.

When asked on Tuesday if the government had informed the United States of the visit, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said it was normal for Yeh to visit Taiping Island and "there is no need to inform other countries" about the visit.

When asked by a reporter on Monday if the U.S. had received any notice of the trip from President Tsai Ing-wen's (蔡英文) administration, U.S. State Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau said she would not comment specifically on the visit.

But she called on all South China Sea claimants to avoid actions that would raise tensions and intensify efforts to find a peaceful and diplomatic solution to disputes.

When asked if Yeh is paving the road for President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) to visit the island in the future, Cabinet spokesman Tung Chen-yuan (童振源) said "future visits are not ruled out" but there are currently no such plans.

No worries...everyone is entitled to their onw opinion...and the best way to influence opinions...presuming everyone is being honest...is through our own actions.

That's usually the best any of can do.

Anyhow, thanks for the kind word and being willing to share how you are feeling about these things.

Compared to a year ago, there are now multiple patches of green. I expect that next year, most of the island will be green. Click on the picture to see the enlarged version.
