for a sentence you which speak perfect English, all your no sense...pfff

Dear FORBIN, I like your posts very much and I respect you as a long-time member of the SDF and a PLA expert.

I readily admit that I don't know weapons. I am interested in weapons but don't know a lot about them. My main purpose here is to learn from experts like you, Deino, AF Brat, Jeff, PLA Wolf, Engineer, among others. I believe most majority of visitors to our forum is here to learn. Let's face it, experts are not easy to come by. Then it is up to you guys, the experts and teachers, to explain things in a clear and understandable fashion so that we can learn.

These weapon systems are complicated stuff to begin with. As I have mentioned before, much of what you guys talk about are way over my head. I have a hard time understanding much of what the experts discuss even when the discussion is in perfect English. It becomes extra hard with your posts because of your English.

I enjoy posts by Jeff, PLA Wolf, Deino, and AF Brat the most because they explain things in a way that a lay person like me can understand. I can tell that most of your posts pack a lot of good information that I would like to learn and understand. However, I can't since it is so difficult to make sense of your posts.

I know that the hardest part of any conversation is between an expert and a lay person. It requires a lot of extra effort on the part of the expert to convey their ideas clear enough for the lay person to understand. I know that from first hand experience. When I write NIH grant applications, the most difficult part is the Lay Statement. Although it is only one paragraph, I spend more time on it because I need to think harder to come up with ways to explain things to a lay person.

I do believe it is the responsibility of the experts to explain things clearly to the lay people. When people have wrong ideas about certain medical myth, I blame myself and my fellow colleagues because we should do a better job explaining things to the general public. Why? Because we are the experts. We are the ones who actually know stuff. Similar with you. I believe that you, as an expert, bare the responsibility to convey your knowledge clearly to the lay people.

Just my 2-cent...

I appreciate your kind words. It's easy for me to admit that I know nothing about weapons because I actually know nothing about them. The little bit that I do know? I learned it from you guys.

I'm not sure if I can still be this "honest" and "candid" if we discuss chemistry, medicine and biology. Since these are supposed to be my areas of expertise, I don't know how well I can take criticism. My pride might take over...

Come on guys. Some members here are not native English speakers. So there can be mis-communication especially when using online translators. There can be serious syntax issues. But If you take your time you can approximate what they are trying to say and if you still can't understand just politely ask the member to clarify.

Regarding the Critique of the YJ-18 having 500+ km range? Well it is a valid Critique. Remember this is not the subsonic variant. The supersonic export version (3M-54TE) is 8.22 m long and is limited to 220 km. In contrast the subsonic export version (3M-54TE1) is 6.2 long and range is limited to 300 km due to MTCR. The anti-ship version of the Tomahawk (RGM/UGM-109B) is 6.25 m long and the max range is 250 nm (or about 460 km). YJ-62A would have a range of at least 400 km. Air-Launched YJ-100 may have a range of 700 km - 800 km but the surface/sub/coastal launched versions are most likely less. These are all subsonic.

Without a doubt the YJ-18 fired from the 052D is the supersonic version. The canister to carry the 3M-14/3M-54 series has to be 8.9 m. So we can expect a a similar value for the YJ-18. A sub launched YJ-18 will require similarly lengthened canister.

In the images below notice how much space the supersonic stage takes in 3M-54TE. It is essentially a small rocket carried by a subsonic cruise missile. China may have tweaked the size of the supersonic stage by reducing the range of the rocket but it will still take a lot of space. So to get 500 km for the supersonic version is quite doubtful especially if you want this thing to be fired from Yuan and Kilo class SSK. I would guesstimate it to be at least 280 km.

Forbin...as we discussed, and as I have posted to you and others.

If you do not like someone, or the things they say, then ignore them.

either with the IGNORE button, or just do it yourself.

DO NOT respond in kind, and DO NOT throw out bombshells of your own at others.

When people do this, on either side of the issue, it just leads to more of the same on both sides and then people get warned and then they get suspended, etc.

So, this is now your warning.

Please, just let the comments go. Ignore them and post your normally fine Defense posts.

This goes for everyone seeing or reading this message. It applies to all.

SLBM? o_O Title clearly says YJ-18. I think this must be the canister for the submarine launched version. You can't actually see the YJ-18 itself. I should be inside the canister. To be used in the Yuan, Kilo, 093 submarines they have to launch them through the torpedo tubes. 093B might fire them from the VLS.

China already has sub tube launched version of C-802 the CM-708UNA and CM-708UNB
