Hi I have been reading this forum for a while but have been intimidated from contributing. You guys really know what you are talking about while I am just an armchair amateur. However I have been interested in the development of the first indigenous Chinese aircraft carrier. It seems to me that China is taking so long to build this first aircraft carrier especially if its going to have a ski ramp only and also based on the LiaoNing. My reasoning is that they are focussed on a new building methodology so that they can build future carriers faster and scalable. This can be seen by the modular way of building. I would be disappointed if EMALS or other catapults are not installed. I guess we are all in suspense on the final bow deck. Perhaps if the carriers are defensive in nature, catapults are not critical as full load planes can take off from nearby bases.

Hello. congrats on your first contributions.

A few points:

-this carrier most definitely will have a ski jump, it will not have catapults of any kind.
-they only started assembling the modules for this carrier in about May last year. Given it's only been slightly over a year, their pace of assembly is actually quite fast, especially when we consider this is the first full sized carrier that's even been constructed.

In other words, your expectations are a little bit high.

I just thinking. For now PLAN has 1 (almost 2) sky jump Aircraft carrier. And someone said that this type of carrier can't accommodate J-15 fully. So rather than they rushed into catapult type of AC (which is definitely expensive), why don't they just develop a new (smaller) aircraft that can fully take advantage of sky jump AC that the Chinese have?
