I have to wonder, why do they issue smgs to border patrol around what is clearly open and flat terrain with no buildings in sight?

I mean at least we're seeing pics of it again, the QCW-05 seems to have disappeared for a while and it didn't seem to even be making it into local police forces. It is strange, to see an smg on such open territory like this, but I imagine it has something to do with old doctrine from the Vietnam war days. Back then no suppressors for AK's and suppressed SMG's were more commonly seen for recon troops.

Note to moderation team this post should be here.
Judging from the empty cases this is either the new 5.8mm LMG or the yet unseen new 7.62mm GPMG.
Based on current trend with upscaling 5.56mm machine gun to 7.62mm like in Germany (MG4,MG5), Israel (Negev, Negev NG7), and US (M249, Mk48), I think the new 7.62mm GPMG might be a bigger version of this:

It’s probably still 5.8. Although that is an established trend The PLA seems to have elected to a universal cartridge model for infantry. If they did derive a machine gun like that it would probably be for export.

Ngl, the blatant US imitating in this videos is fucking obnoxious. It should be confident in finding its own style by now.
Why should "style" even matter? Seems pretty stupid and narrow minded to limit knowledge and options like that.

Evans Carlson successfully applied what he learned from the 8th Route Army to his Marine Raiders. Likewise, the PLA has benefited from recent reforms influenced by US doctrine.
