It often times do get excessive though.
There is a difference between saying "we get it, they need better training and are displaying incompetence, but you're laying it on a bit thick" versus excusing their incompetence.
The former is fine, but if it is paired with excusing displayed incompetence then that just undermines the whole effort.

The nature of this kind of mistake does mean that criticisms of these issues have the privilege to be more sardonic and venomous, while defending it really have no leg to stand on and have to be a bit more sullen and accept that really there's no excuse for that kind of basic incompetence except for "they should be better".
