You can eliminate choices by clicking on code that is enclosed by <>, [], or (). When you do this, there's a chance you will replenish your tries. So my SOP to breeze through the hacking process is to click 3 words quickly, then click on all the "special code" to eliminate choices and refill all tries. After that it becomes much easier.
I didn't know those were a choice. Was this ever explained?

Yup, that's why I always quick save or invest a few points into hacking. Makes it more manageable.
Just read as many Big books of science as you can.
One Fallout banger every week till Mango either drops the nuke or annexes Canada IRL.

Not technically a Fallout Banger but still pretty awesome. Will meet this week’s quota!

Nope, I discovered this by accident. I forget if this is FO3 or 4, but if you run your mouse along the code, you will sometimes see gibberish code highlighted the same way words get highlighted. Those are the clickable special codes.

What the hell is it with Bethesda not telling anyone key gameplay features? They do this shit with Starfield as well.

I used to. Ignore my glaze in 2023, but it's absolute ass. It was also just released on the PS5 last week with low sales.

Honestly, I no longer have any hope that TES6 or F5 will be good. They no longer have good game design sense.
There is always hope that Microsoft sells Bethesda IPs to Tencent to fund more AI data centers so we get a Wumao version from the PRC POV.

Games aren't supposed to tell you everything, discovering them yourself is part of the fun. Super Mario Bros didn't tell you there were invisible blocks you could hit for 1-ups.

I agree with that, but in this case, I think their choice of not telling the players actually hinders the experience.

For instance, not telling players that you can actually focus the laser to mine minerals faster or that the spacesuit actively makes stealth near impossible. The second one was especially bad since the enemy would always be wearing spacesuits regardless of the atmosphere, and the same limit is never applied to them. They don't get any nerfs to vision for using the same equipment that would nerf the player.

It's the combination of a lack of essential need-to-know information and bad game balance that ruins the gameplay for me. And these are just two of the minor issues I have with gameplay.

Bethesda also hand holds a lot with their RPGs. You have clearly marked quests on maps, fast travel, etc. Old school rpgs (even old school Bethesda like Morrowind) are a lot worse in this regard.
