Finally got around to playing Fallout 3 GOTY edition. I can't be the only one who thinks the hacking minigame is atrocious, right?

What dontcha like about it? The guessing part, or the part you get locked out if you guess wrong?

The "guessing" part. I somewhat have a grasp on how the minigame works and how it's a proccess of elimination. Shorter passwords are manageable but some passwords that are more than 9 characters long or have really common word endings like -ing or -ion does feel a bit unfair at times, especially if the first two guesses don't yield a whole lot of information.

Yup, that's why I always quick save or invest a few points into hacking. Makes it more manageable.

You can eliminate choices by clicking on code that is enclosed by <>, [], or (). When you do this, there's a chance you will replenish your tries. So my SOP to breeze through the hacking process is to click 3 words quickly, then click on all the "special code" to eliminate choices and refill all tries. After that it becomes much easier.
