Looks like, by lifting, it means maintaining the 1 kg mass at a certain height from the testing device.

So no work is actually done on the 1 kg mass in this case.

But that is not my point. I was more interested in the engine output power.

You can get an idea of what I mean if you compare this to the output power in KW of a helicopter engine and the kind of weight it needs to lift.

Those kind of figures are meaningless at the moment since the article is about proof of concept, in other words they made an actual model to see if their idea works or not. It did.
Now they can concentrate on the engineering part to optimize the system so they can so if they can input the power amount, optimize the chamber to amplify the EM to generate more heat and so on.
Basically comparing an actual mass produced model against something out of initial research proof of concept model is absurd. It's like comparing the Kitty hawk with a commercially sold airplane and saying it's not going to work.

If you ask me, I personally think that this is a great breakthrough even if it's at a low energy efficiency at this early experimental stage.

The article never says anything about the 1 kg force using 200 watts or 1000 watts. 200 watts would be like the prize is already in the bag.
1000 watts would require a lot more work ahead.

All the while, China's three largest state-owned telecom companies plan to invest a combined 180 billion yuan ($25 billion) in 5G this year, more than four times their spending last year. Subscribers have jumped from less than 10 million at the end of 2019 to over 50 million at the end of March, according to government data.

China launched 5G last November, later than the U.S. and South Korea. Yet most Chinese cities have 5G coverage. More than 70 compatible smartphones were available domestically in March, the most anywhere in the world. That figure will rise to about 100 by the end of the year.

The country's deliveries of 5G smartphones are north of 26 million units, suggesting that many customers have signed up for the next-generation service before having a compatible handset. Device upgrades are expected to make up the difference.

China is to account for 70% of global 5G connections this year, according to a March report by GSMA Intelligence, a British data provider. Western and other Asian markets will start catching up next year, but Chinese connections will top 800 million by 2025, with the global share approaching 50%.

50% of 5G connections market... Chinese companies have all the incentives to develop their own domestic 5G ecosystem, why bother to use foreign ecosystem cant even cater to their huge market needs. I cannot fathom how US can attempt to steer the direction to be US led considering the sheer different in market size. 5G will be a huge change from the past for as far back as I remember that for free market to be valid, it must be western-led, dictated and dominated.
