Beijing,Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang scored the highest in the 2018 PISA, followed by Singapore, Macao, and Hong Kong. Taiwan is quite a few notches down.

The ranking is according to the Reading column. I did a quick check. Taiwan comes in 5th if based on the Mathematics column. U.S. is below average if based on Maths column.

It is very interesting to note the ranks among all Chinese groups. Mainland (BSJZ) ranks the highest. Singapore the second. Macao the third. HK the fourth. TW is the lowest.

Then, look at the closeness to the US, politically, culturally, economically, and socially, mainland is the farthest, Macao the second. Singapore the third. HK the fourth. And TW is the closest.

What conclusion can we draw from these observation? I think I have enough evidence to conclude "The more you learn from the US, the stupider your offspring are."

Down the road a few years later,
Taiwanese will be the lowest class Chinese in intellectual capacity and in education.
HKers will be the second lowest class Chinese in intellectual capacity and in education.
Macanese, Singaporean and main-landers will be more or less the same class in intellectual capacity and in education.

What kind jobs Taiwanese and HKers are going to have in the future? Are they going to be the designated janitors, dish-washers and servants of the Chinese society? Sure. No one will hire morons. And those who are proved intellectually deficient in PISA Tests are going to have hard times in find jobs in Chinese society.

Proximity to cinnabar makes you red, to pitch makes you black.(近朱者赤,近墨者黑) Enjoying American culture will make your children idiotic.

They dropped out after 2012 because the results were so bad

Indian students rank 2nd last in global test

Well, there are many other countries that didn't opt-in for the test so it wasn't exactly a global test in that sense. Only 79 out of the 193 countries in the world took part. So India may find consolation that there is still a chance she would fair better if all the countries of the world took part.

Ranking of test is so useless. It's skewed.

"You can't build something that you can't measure And if you measure it you can build it" is a true axiom in the engineering world.

Without the sophisticated equipments to measure and quantify things you can't never build anything useful.

well versed in theories is useless without the measuring equipments. And the same time. lesser engineers can build things if they surrounded by great equipments.

In many countries, too many engineering students but no tools for them build things.

All very true.

But the test is all about forcing the participants to really compare their performance against others.

It's testing basic maths, literacy and science for 15 year olds. And that is something that should be universal.

One of the key points that I read was that Shanghai students scored exceptionally high on problem solving skills, so make what you may of that.

I remember reading that in the mid 1990s, China enacted a mandatory policy to make salt iodized. The reason was that iodine deficiency was one of the major causes of stunting brain development in children. I wonder if the results of this are starting to manifest now.
