The U.S. must do three things to lay the ground for establishing complete supply chain/reshore manufacturing:

1) Outlaw stock buybacks.
2) Outlaw meme/shit coins and crypto currency PRC style.
3) Tax stock holdings over 50 million dollars 95 percent regardless of transactions on them.

Unless the above three things are done, US has as good of a chance overcoming the rare earth ban as me becoming the CEO of NVIDIA.

You forgot having every single Wall Street and Capitol Hill blobs doing back-breaking labor in the plantations & deserts for 15 hours during the day, and doing rote memorization of Xi Jinping's Thought at night for 5-10 years.

I think most Americans agree that this is a superior outcome than them scheming over/executing the brutal violation of the American middle class.

But my point is that no one is going to put much effort into physical manufacturing when get rich schemes have far lower risk and have much better payouts.

why would you ask ChatGPT? how would it know about the cutting edger solid state battery develop in there.

And also, why would you think these scientists would be in the lead? The best research are done inside BYD and CATL and other battery companies.

Are BYD and CATL doing what the CAS scientists have been doing? I see no harm in getting an opinion from a source that is more knowledgeable than most people here.

If you disagree with ChatGPT, feel free to give your own analysis.

Can someone more knowledgeable tell me how big a deal this is?

Lynas is claiming producing dysprosium, one of the most in-demand heavy rare earth, by sourcing metal from australian mines. I used to think China had complete monopoly on dysprosium.

high cost

High Cost however is not a valid defence in such charged geopolitical environment. Specially when rare earths themselves are a pretty small commodity by value. Even paying 5x the cost for heavy rare earth elements wouldn't be too bad.

Think of it like this, would China have cared if it had a EUV machine at 5x the cost of western one?

Unless the price is in multiple hundreds of extra billions, it wouldn't matter.
