Think about it.

Some people in the conversation will be reasonable.
Others will be extreme.

And what is said will require an unbiased human to understand the context of the words in the entire conversation.
So they are going to have to spend time to listen to the entire conversation and analyse it.

So how can a machine automatically make a determination of whether things have gone too far?

And at what point do you cut off the conversation, given that this means censoring both reasonable opinions and also the disinformation?
Well, I never thought instant translation will be possible ten years ago. Google translate is doing literal magic nowadays.

Contextual speech recognition is not beyond reach. There are Grammar analyzing softwares that improve constantly as it works on thousands of articles.

And then there's the power of governments. How long do you think will it take once the government of a Global power decides that platforms like Clubhouse pose a threat?

Grammarly and google translate requires large amounts of structured data which has been manually labelled or categorised.

And what we see in China is that people just create a *new* language to evade censorship.
So the President becomes Winnie-the-Pooh bear, or an election is referenced as a cupcake, or the Deepstate is a bakery.

Good luck doing that with voice conversations, particularly since there is no money to be made in destroying a Clubhouse conversation with adverts.

And remember that Facebook has been recognised as a threat to the truth, but is still home to disinformation and conspiracy theories galore. Yet it is only now *voluntarily* regulating itself only half-heartedly. If Facebook can't even be fixed, then how can Clubhouse?

Good luck with the US government imposing rules on Facebook or Clubhouse because of the guarantee of free speech in the Constitution.

In comparison, the Chinese government has long recognised that fake news is a threat to society.

---

And this is even before we consider how Facebook communities create echo chambers which help divide US society.

That is why I stand by my assessment that Clubhouse will become just another platform for disinformation, echo chambers and division in the USA.

Knowing what the people talk about and the pure data streams are worth money. Knowing people in region A are talking about article X might be useful information to sell to advertisers or state agencies.

Does the NSA currently pay when it gets data from Google or Facebook? The answer is no.

Google and Facebook are expected to comply with Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act as a cost of doing business and being based in the USA

But for argument's sake, let's say that advertising does justify the cost of analysing the data, and we end up with a new social media platform like Facebook.

Facebook still is unable to prevent disinformation, fake news and echo chambers from proliferating.

So how is Clubhouse going to be any better?

NSA sure doesn't pay or need to pay.
But US supports Google and Facebook by using its diplomatic muscles to ensure that these software technology firms don't get regulated and taxed in foreign countries, sparing them billions in costs for Data localization, privacy protection etc. Consider that against the duty to enforce NSA demands and its pretty clear that they'd be more than ready to do that.

And what does this have to do with the original point that Clubhouse/Facebook spread disinformation and promote divisive echo chambers in the USA?

Note that the Facebook funded oversight board somehow keeps ruling that current Facebook censorship is too excessive, which is a complete joke.

During a round-table meeting at the event, Ren said the company has kicked off a “self-reliance in production” programme, referred to as Nanniwan, under which the company is venturing into coal mining, iron and steel, and music, while expanding in categories in which the company already has consumer products such as televisions, computers, and tablets.

A temporary setback.
