“We’ve created regulation that allows us to monitor trustworthiness in an appropriate fashion,” German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said of the decision. “Our security interests played a big role.”
Seehofer noted that Huawei gave Germany assurances about the safety of its networking products, meeting the country’s need to balance its security concerns with an open market for competitors. Huawei will be held financially liable for any security breaches.
As you must know, Huawei has been under attack by the U.S. government for unsubstantiated claims that the firm is beholden to the Chinese government and could use its networking equipment as a Trojan Horse to spy on the West. But China is Germany’s biggest trade partner and the biggest market for German companies. And so the country has sought a less drastic solution that would allow Huawei and other Chinese firms to compete for infrastructure contracts normally.
Huawei saluted Germany’s decision, which still needs to be ratified by its parliament.
“This means that there are higher and equal security standards for all suppliers for the 5G networks,” a Huawei spokesperson said.

I don’t think it’s really as surprising that Germany decided as they did... since the US has already proven to have bugged the Germans before... now that they have the choice of US approved supplier, with the possible implications, vs a, although Chinese, supplier with all the associated alleged national security issues, but is one who has been willing to open the source code and system for reviews... I don’t think it’s so much the killing of the Aussie chicken as it is more about German practicality and pragmatism in play for this decision, politics aside, the Germans are still the most pragmatic of the Western Europeans...

Agree with you, they the United States government got put into their place over this Huawei 5G war.

The only three countries with official bans on Huawei 5G equipment are England, Australia, and maybe Sweden, not sure about them. Otherwise, there will not be that many more.

If someone was going to ban something, like drugs, they would ban it. It would not take years.

The United States war against Huawei 5G, it never had a chance after a few months when it started. If something is evil like drugs, you ban it, you do not wait. They wait, to play all the angles.

What mattered was the money and the technology. The politics was mostly all irrelevant. Yet, the Liberal media subjected the world to a full throttle politic propaganda campaign, when this thing never had a chance. Many people were fooled by this, who thought the so-called western alliance would stick together. How wrong that view was. It was wrong two years ago, it is wrong today. There is no reason why anyone should hold that view other than they accept the western mentality of Yellow Peril as the standard to view all issues related to China. That is wrong. But that is all we read from the American media.

The German position from Merkel, the economic minister, and the interior minister, all were the same the last two years, did not change one bit. That they announce the news one week before Christmas, that is what they think of Trump to give the US government that kind of Christmas present.

Hey brother, some old articles to scan briefly about the Germans and Huawei 5G.

The German Chancellery office, aka Big Mama, did not want to ban Huawei.
The German Economic Ministry, did not want to ban Huawei.
The German Interior Ministry (whatever they do), did not want to ban Huawei.

The way the current German law to be passed is that the Chancellery, the economic, interior, and defense ministries will reach a consensus to decide to whether to allow Huawei to build 5G networks. Proof will be required in terms of technical certification, and political trustworthiness.

That should be touchy subject in Germany, because we all know who hacked Merkel's phone. And everyone still have to listen to lectures about trustworthiness.

Give credit to the Germans, because at least this system to decide is fair, everyone gets a say. The Americans only wanted the police and security services to have a say, ie the police state will decide, then the US Liberal media would insinuate and make it sounds like that was fait accompli. Two years of the same news telecast.

When they said that the future was a boot stamping on a human face, forever, guess Orwell wasn't joking. Maybe the US Liberal media will finally be quiet about Huawei 5G in Europe.

In two years, the relevant people making the decisions in Germany never changed their position, and never gave any indication they were going to change their position. But the boot was tireless in its stamping.

There are strict conditions Huawei had to agree to in order to secure this deal with Germany. For example, Huawei will be financially liable for any future data breaches.

Germany security agencies will have complete access to Huawei equipments including codes.

Essentially, Germany will nationalize Huawei’s operation in Germany.

Hello, well, okay, we have to be clear about a few things before we can discuss the matter on hand. Let's get nationalization out of the way.

Nationalization means the state takes over the ownership of a private enterprise.

For example, suppose a kid has a stand in his neighbourhood selling lemonade. The kid owns his lemonade stand.

Suppose the police arrive and arrests this kid and takes him away, then by decree, the state takes over the lemonade stand. Then the state appoints BLM or some minority to work at the state owned lemonade stand selling the same lemonade the kid that use to before he/she was arrested.

That would more or less how classical nationalizations happen.

Huawei does not own anything in Germany, but perhaps the furniture in the sales office. If Germany nationalizes Huawei in Germany, all the government will obtain is some chairs, some desks, some laptops, and the boardroom table, along with the coffee maker. They won't even get a lemonade stand.

All Huawei equipment, has already been sold to German telecom companies such as Deutsche Telekom. (Since the German government actually owns a percentage of Deutsche Telekom, they cannot nationalize their share, but they could nationalize the rest of Deutsche Telekom that owns Huawei equipment).

If we buy a cell phone from Samsung or Apple, we own the phone, not Samsung or Apple anymore. Same with Huawei 5G gear.

Let's put this nationalization angle behind us because it is climbing up the tree to catch fish, it is not applicable.

That is correct that the German authorities will examine every piece of Huawei equipment and examine every line of code.

1. Same situation when we buy a cell phone from Samsung or Apple, we own it now, not Samsung or Apple. We can do anything we want to it.

2. The German authorities examining every line of code to Huawei equipment is not particularly important.

Why?

2a) That code has no commercial value. The only equipment that can use that Huawei code is Huawei equipment. If everyone knows what that code is, everyone will still not care.

2b) That code has been under inspection by the Huawei Cyber Security Evaluation Centre in England for the past 10 years, finding no evidence of anything suspicious about the code in Huawei equipment. The English GCHQ who looks after these types of issues, also found evidence of any malicious code in Huawei equipment. The same goes for all other inspection centers in Europe that Huawei set up and asked those respective governments to have someone check their code.

This is what Huawei wanted all along. If that what was required to do the business, they did it.

They grew to be dominant in the market place, became #1 and appears to be able to stay ahead of the competition to remain #1 telecom company for a long time coming.

Huawei to invest 200 million euros in France for its first production plant in Europe-cnTechPost

Huawei will build its first production plant outside China in the city of Brumath in France's northeast Grand-Est region and expects to start production in 2023, the company said Thursday.
The plant, with an investment of 200 million euros, is expected to create 300 direct jobs initially and 500 jobs in the long term.
Huawei announced back in 2019 that it would build its first European plant in France. After all, Europe was once Huawei's largest overseas market and is considered by the company's founder Ren Zhengfei to be Huawei's second home.
The Brumath plant, which will open in late 2021, will cover about 8 hectares. Huawei said the plant will manufacture components for 4G and 5G base stations, including chipsets and motherboards. Products from the plant will be supplied to European customers.
"With this factory built at the crossroads of Europe, Huawei will enrich its already rich presence on the continent with 23 research and development centers, more than 100 partner universities, more than 3,100 suppliers and an efficient supply chain," Huawei said

The next step in the wireless communications industry vision is 5.5G, which is an enhancement and extension of the 5G scenario to meet the demand for moving from the Internet of Everything to the Smart Connect of Everything, said Xu Wenwei, director of Huawei and president of the Institute for Strategic Studies, recently.
Xu delivered a speech on the theme of "The Future Vision of the Connectivity of Everything" at the recent IEEE GLOBECOM 2020 conference, in which he talked about 5.5G.
He said that 5.5G will first continue to enhance the three standard scenarios of eMBB, mMTC and URLLC defined by ITU.

5.5G will also be expanded to include three new scenarios, including Uplink Centric Broadband Communication, Real-time Broadband Communication, and Harmonized Communication and Sensing, thus turning the "triangle" of 5G scenarios into a richer "hexagon.
According to Xu, 5.5G is derived from 5G and needs to be compatible with all 5G devices.
5.5G needs to achieve flexible use of the entire sub-100GHz band on demand, and needs to be deeply integrated with AI to realize Air Interface+AI, Network+AI, and Service+AI to meet the demands of network diversity and energy management.
5.5G was first proposed at the 2020 Global Mobile Broadband Forum (Global MBB Forum) by Huawei Managing Director and Director of the Product Investment Review Committee Wang Tao, and received great attention at the time.
Wang Tao said the reason why 5.5G was proposed was because of consumers' constant pursuit of the ultimate business experience and the diversity of industrial interconnection scenarios, both of which bring new challenges to 5G connectivity.
