Hi WTAN,

Good day, any new update to share with us, I think with the news that Samsung will not supply Huawei with Chips, there is an unofficial embargo being implement by the international community against China? I know China plan to counter act with its own ingenious development and already discuss it to death. What I'm concern about is China will able to develop comparable product? Since we will be starting at a low level of technology(regarding chips)? This stiffening of tech transfer is a way of weakening China ability to compete and seal of China ability to export its technology? There is a complicity between the US, SK, JAPAN and TAIWAN in limiting China tech development?

@WTAN

Is the news about Huawei starting a 45nm fab plant reliable or just rumor?
It is reliable news. Huawei is starting at the entry level to get experience in Chip making. It has purchased the SMEE 65nm Immersion Lithography machine to start producing 45nm Chips. Eventually it will move on to 22 and 28nm Chips with the same machine using Multi Patterning.

This article confirms the rumours that as part of the 02 Lithography Machine Special Project, Huawei has developed a EDA Tool for designing 7nm Chips.
That's great. Huawei's Hisilicon has 10,000 ppl, right, so if just 10 % got involved in the EDA project that's huge, plus hundreds more from other departments. Total 1-2 thous can do wonderful things.

If that is the case, I am seriously questioning how safe any of these countries are going to be in the future since there collective safety is in the hands of the USA. Should anything happen to the USA, what is the likely chance that the three nations (combined without the USA) are going to be safe if they keep up with these measures

Hi emblem21,

From my own opinion, they were force into it by US and also an incentive to crush a potential competitor. Its all for nothing strategy, that's how the US define winning by annihilation and domination, Unlike us Asian were we left a door open for a possible compromised. For The sake of 1.4 billion people, I hope the CCP understood this and be prepare.

Just a comment though, SK is not conspiring with others to attack China, rather for now it,'s complying with BIS rules. As things progress, all sides will adjust accordingly. SK can't afford to anger China. Even if Huawei can't make or get high-end chips for smartphones it will just take a pause for 1-2 years, and within that time frame China (SMEE etc) will have advanced to produce own 7nm chips..1-2-3 yrs are just short period of time for China :)

Any Embargo against Huawei and other Chinese FABS is actually good news for the Semiconductor Manufacturing Industry. This will force local FABs to buy more equipment locally and to support local companies to upgrade their products.

Without this pressure, Local manufacturers will have little sales and just continue to produce low tech Semiconductor equipment as all the FABs prefer to buy foreign products.

The Chinese Govt now realises the importance of having self sufficiency in Chip manufacturing and there will be pressure to produce Lithographs and Chips which are competitive with the worlds best.

I think China will be okay. An example is China's Electric vehicle and Battery Industry which is world leading. Alot of Government support,financing and competiton is the key.

I am going to seriously watch the USA suffer for there repeated lying and cheating in regards to China while painting China as the villain around the world with no chance to explain anything along with portraying the own spies as heroes. In fact what the chaos begins during the election, I am going to tape record it.
I also support the ruination of all of there industry as well, to teach them a lesson about how they shouldn’t use there own companies as leverage

Hi WTAN, machupicu,

Thanks for your prompt reply, Being an outsider looking in regarding China IC sector, both of your comment is very reassuring and all we had to do is wait, which is very frustrating, especially with all these negative news coming out every week.
