one important thing to make clearer is that this is a clock that only loses 1 second after 30,000 years.
Reading this at first I thought it took 30,000 years to develop the clock.

China building an integrated system for Patent commercialization.

China's top intellectual property regulator said on Monday it had completed its first-ever screening of over 1.3 million patents held by universities and research institutions nationwide.

In this process, it identified 680,000 invention patents with strong commercialization potential and connected them with 460,000 companies in a push to move innovation from lab to market.

Over the past three years, about 80,000 invention patents from more than 2,700 universities and research institutions across the country have entered the market.

The world's first nanometer-scale micro-vibration laboratory has officially begun operations in Xiong'an New Area in north China's Hebei Province, marking a breakthrough in the country's precise control and evaluation capabilities of nanometer-scale micro-vibration environments.

The laboratory houses a micro-vibration test bed—the largest and most accurate of its kind in the world. Measuring 4 meters by 4 meters, the test bed has a self-weight of approximately 50 tonnes and a designed load capacity of up to 20 tonnes, enabling it to meet the testing requirements of complete large-scale semiconductor equipment and full-size satellite payloads.

Deep dive into the end-to-end industrial ecosystem which produces positive spillovers for all kinds of manufacturing.

China’s dominance of electric vehicle and battery manufacturing, along with surging exports of these technologies, are some of the most surprising and well-publicized global economic trends of the 2020s. But the broader consequences of China’s electrification of both power generation and transportation remain underappreciated by global investors and policymakers. These trends have resulted from Beijing’s expansion of cheap electricity, the agglomeration of upstream materials production, and policies that enabled China to develop a dominant position in green technologies, while maintaining its competitive advantage in manufacturing of almost anything with an electric current: In other words, its emergence as an “electro-state.”

In aggregate, the pro-cyclical network effects that produced China’s electro-state structure uniquely combine metals processing, power resources, and production of advanced manufactured goods in a way that will be almost impossible to fully replicate in any individual market outside of China. This note details how this process unfolded and the implications for companies, financial markets, and global policymakers.

This broke the previous world record for fiber transmission by achieving a data rate of 1.02 petabits per second (Pbps) over 1,808 km using a 19-core optical fiber set in May 2025, but only unidirectional. Distance of China's feat is not stated, though.

Chinese tech firm delivers new breakthrough in large-capacity, high-speed, long-distance optical transmission
By Ma JingjingPublished: Mar 25, 2026

China's State Key Laboratory of Optical Communication Technologies and Networks under China Information and Communication Technologies Group Corp (CICT), in cooperation with Pengcheng Laboratory and Fiberhome Fujikura Optic Technology Co, has achieved real-time 2.5 petabits per second bidirectional transmission over 24-core single-mode fiber, a key breakthrough in ultra-long-distance optical transmission, CICT told the Global Times on Wednesday.

What does this measurement mean? Simply put, it is equivalent to transmitting 290,000 gigabytes of data per second. In other words, it could download 14,000 20GB 4K movies in one second, according to CICT.

"This speed, to put it simply, boosts information transmission capacity by an order of magnitude," Yang Chao, a research fellow from the team, told the Global Times on Wednesday.

"In the past, we were building highways, but now, it's more like constructing a three-dimensional transportation network," he added.

In Yang's view, the most fundamental change in this breakthrough isn't about being "faster," but about having "more lanes that can operate simultaneously."

He explained that traditional fiber optics are like a single lane; no matter how much researchers speed it up, there's a limit. But with 24-core fiber, it is equivalent to having 24 channels in a single fiber, he said.

As a core enterprise in China's optical communication field, the CICT has long been engaged in the research and development (R&D) of optical transmission technologies featuring "ultra-large capacity, ultra-high-speed, and ultra-long distance," continuously promoting independent innovation of core technologies in the country, the CICT noted.

This technological breakthrough fully validates the feasibility and engineering potential of space-division multiplexing and multi-band technologies in ultra-large-capacity optical communications, providing a new pathway for the R&D of next-generation optical communication systems, according to the company.

This technological breakthrough comes as traditional single-mode fiber optic transmission systems are gradually approaching their capacity limits amid the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), large-language model computing, and data centers.

"The breakthrough further consolidates China's leading international position in the field of optical communications and will promote the upgrading and development of the optical communication industry," Xiang Ligang, director-general of the Zhongguancun Modern Information Consumer Application Industry Technology Alliance, told the Global Times on Wednesday.

The breakthrough can provide high-speed and stable optical communication support for the development of mobile communications as well as emerging technologies such as AI, cloud computing, and big data, helping drive the rapid development of highly digitalized economy. For example, smoother 8K live streaming and more real-time AI interactions will all benefit from this technological breakthrough, Xiang said.
