New Type98/99 MBT thread

Maybe you can help them fix it. While you're at it, please help the Russian designers and the Western designers out too. The middle east is filled with the corpses of their tanks. Maybe you can also help the Indians build a tank that actually balances mobility and protection. Seems like their Arjun mk2 copied this turret geometry.

On a serious note, PLA tank doctrine is frontal armour heavy. They don't anticipate being flanked from any direction. To be honest I don't think PLA even bothers with tanks now that UAVs can knock out entire divisions with ease. Wasted lives and material.

I wouldnt call 30 degrees off centreline flank.

Hi everyone i'm new around here.

Some months ago i came across this picture and the guy who posted it on another forum said that was taken during a presentation about Type 99A. And in these pictures it reads that the base armor of the turret of said tank is equal to 7**mm vs APFSDS and 1***mm vs HEAT. Is that description accurate?

BTW if someone could give me clarification of the exact performance of FY-IV (for example, i know that its supposed to decrease KE performance by 30 percent, but that applies also to APFSDS that were designed to counter ERA like M829A3 or DM53/63?) or if Type 99A is using said ERA or a new one i would also appreciate it.

Whats the gun depression of the Type 99A? I would assume it is greater than Type 99 since the 99A has a taller and roomier turret.

I'd think all the exact numbers about the protection value and the type of ammo the ERA counters would be considered at least somewhat classified, but who knows. For the numbers, I think we can take it with a grain of salt. Those numbers are usually Predicted Numbers based on tests. With modern composite armor, who knows how consistent the protection would be as rounds themselves also have a somewhat variable performance within the tolerances.

Approximately how many Type 99 and Type 99A tanks have been produced so far? How much is the PLA planning to procure? On average how many Type 99As get produced each month?

Do u have more images or sources of this lecture? If it's possible pls provide them to me in private. Thanks.
7** is the specification instead of the actual numbers, which are normally 50 to 100 short. The ideal number after some discussion and calculation here should be 7█0 to 8█0. (when opposed to the chinese DT█1██, if opposed to munitions not so optimized to ERA and NERA then the numbers can reach ███+.)

Seems like PLA has great interest in HE anti-tank. Anyone has info about PLA tank HE dev or specs? For example the DTB-125.

About 1,200 to 1,500 Type 99/A have been produced and about 100 per year produce. Type 96A/B is produced in much greater number
