Posting some old stuff for calculations on the FY5.

The left sabot in pic 1 is 125-II, named DTW-125. The right one is 125-III, named DTC 10-125. The dimensions of the shell are virtually the same while the III removed the ballistic cap and made modifications on the fins.
Pic 2 and 3 are both 125-IIIs.
The penetrator length is roughly 630, diameter 22 to 23, L/D roughly 28. I'm just going to use 630, 22.5, 28 as there are already similar numbers on the internet.
Roughly calculating the pen, according to tables it should be around 685/0, 3km. Very close to the uncovered value of 680/0, 2km. (The table is a domestic experiment data table so it should also be v90 standard. under v50 the numbers might be around 730 to 750 or so.)

IDK but there seems to be little reaction to my posts. I'm new here at sinodefenceforum so IDK what level of information should be displayed. Probably the previous information are too hardcore or too long? Or perhaps too easy or already discussed? I didn't bother reading all the previous pages, so if someone sees this comment please tell me what you think. (Please don't consider me as a spammer. I think the info I've released for now are still quite useful. o_O)
I need some feedback so that I can change future content in order to make it more useful for more people. o_O
This is not a complaint, just trying to make my info as helpful as possible;)

There's just not as many posts as in other sections like in airforce or navy sections here. It is what it is. Some are also already been discussed like the above ammo post iirc

Thanks for all info man, you posted is very good but tank is not hottest topic here( damn those fancy j10, j20 and aircraft carrier took all the light). Btw i see video on YouTube of one guy talk about next generation tank gun:
. You have any information about China next generation tank gun. They have interest or research about ETC gun?

Yes. Here's one of very rare data: (PLA really are good at keeping secrets, even here in China there's rarely any info:p)
1583753984560.png
From the book 《电炮原理》,国防工业出版社,1995年3月第一版 (《Principle of electric guns》, National defense industry press, March. 1995, Edition 1) Took me quite a while to find this old book:p (There are actually a lot of free downloads of this book on the internet here in China. )

(Unfortunately this is the only edition of the book, the newest editions of 《Introduction to artillery》, Beijing inst. of tech. press, doesn't have any content concerning the history nor the development of Chinese ETC guns, so this thing is still secrecy.)

Translation of the picture above:
The Hefei Plasma Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, made a ETC gun based on the plasma pinch effect, which acts as a pre-accelerator for the institute's railgun project. This gun uses a large current to heat up an aluminum foil in the rear chamber, making it explode and producing plasma, using the plasma pinch effect to accelerate a 30g bullet to 570m/s. When adding an additional 800mg of fast-burning charge, the gun accelerates a 50g bullet to 700m/s. The Research Institute of Fluid Physics of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics made a liquid propellant electrothermal-chemical gun in 1991, aka a CAP gun using a liquid propellant, with a caliber of 23mm. It has accelerated a 20g bullet to 1850m/s, and penetrated 30mm of steel. The CAP gun's operating fluid is light propellant such as H2O2, put into the combustion chamber in a plastic bag. The energy source is a charged capacitor set.

There are rumors that the Type 15 is planning to use an ETC, reaching the power of >=125mm caliber guns. (Seems to make sense to me, as a method to reach max fighting power with min weight, but I doubt the facticity. After all no country has claimed to have solved the pressure vibrations in the chamber of a liquid propellant gun.)

(I know nothing about plasma physics so I'm just doing the translation work here. I don't even know what a "plasma pinch effect" is (just a high school student after all o_O))

I understand. It's just that it's slightly less popular than here in China, probably because there are more Warthunder and World of Tanks players here.

So when are the designers going to fix the turret geometr? Any inside scoops?

Maybe you can help them fix it. While you're at it, please help the Russian designers and the Western designers out too. The middle east is filled with the corpses of their tanks. Maybe you can also help the Indians build a tank that actually balances mobility and protection. Seems like their Arjun mk2 copied this turret geometry.

On a serious note, PLA tank doctrine is frontal armour heavy. They don't anticipate being flanked from any direction. To be honest I don't think PLA even bothers with tanks now that UAVs can knock out entire divisions with ease. Wasted lives and material.

Western tanks operated by forces who don’t bother to support their tanks with infantry. Russian Tanks and Chinese have such a profile because of the autoloader they chose.

That’s a force on force doctrine which all MBT are built to.
Bull. Sorry but drones haven’t added capabilities that aircraft haven’t had for decades. They can be countered with Antiaircraft systems and jammers.
