The 'silly-looking' Soviet style headgear is actually preferred option for tank operators in PLA. They tried to introduce 'western style' helmet design over ten years ago. But, the feedback was not as convenient as the old Soviet style ones. The main reason is that in the summer it is much more comfortable to wear inside tanks. The old ones suited most of Chinese climate better. You may ask if it's the case why other countries in the west where the summer season is also quite humid and hot are not adapting the Soviet design. Well, I guess since they are used to their own gears there's no need to made any changes. Likewise, Chinese are used to their own style.

The German Bundeswehr, for once, is also traditionally using Soviet-styled headgear for their tank-crews.

There will always be occasions when the commander must man the turret gun though.

Even if the PLA is too financially strapped to do it for production vehicles it would be cool to see a remote weapon station installed on a test tank and heavier hull skirt armor instead of rubber flaps.

i dont think its hard to build one of those it is simply incentive. I remember seeing small firms in China promoting their remote weapon station. also heard rumour that the new generation tank will be operated by two crews, that means it will have to have a remote weapon station. either way doubt PLA will spend too much money on that stuff any time soon.

I think a HJ-8 tested against a type 99 base variant without the arrow added on armour. There is smoke but can't tell if the tank is taken out.

From zhurihe, Peace mission 2014.

About afew seconds in, Notice the cross country sprint of the type99A2. You can compare the russian standard T72 later in the video. The cliamed 1500hp engine certainly made a difference.

Should have brought this to the tank biathlon instead.

Btw, during last leg of the tank baithlon 2014, the PLA type96 actually had their fan belt broken, it was not a engine flame out.

BTW, i notice we do not have a Peace mission thread.

... And not to mention the launch of the new AFT-10 Fiber-Optic Guided NLOS ATGM later in the video.

The PLA really committed their most elite heavy mechanized group army this time: the 38th GA.
