Nio is a good name

Xpeng is a horrible name

BYD is good

Agree with Xpeng. As I said on another forum, Xpeng sounds like a minivan people use to haul their custom built PCs to LAN parties.

Disagree on BYD though. It’s a Chinese brand with an English acronym as its name. Just the kind of 1990s stuff younger Chinese have no time for. It’s almost a consensus on the Chinese internet that BYD could price their higher-end cars 20% higher if only they would change to a better name.

Volvo had a complete revamp after Geely took over. The old Volvo's are basically Ford on the inside, which means they will start having problems during the test drive.

The new Volvo's are top notch in build quality. We thought about getting another Audi or BMW, but wife wanted the Volvo because it was the most safe.
In terms of safety, what does the current Volvo have that BMW /Audi do not?

Generally better crash test results. We were specifically comparing the Audi Q5, BMW X5 and Volvo XC60. The Volvo had the best reliability and safety results. Volvo also introduced auto stop under 50 km/h if there are obstacles or people ahead, which BMW and Audi didn't have at the time. Prices between the three were comparable, BMW was pricier due to being a bit bigger.

I drove my parents Q5 for testing and a buddy's X5, so spend a bit more time test driving them before deciding on the Volvo.

Got the car just over 2 years ago.

I'm going to switch out my work commuter car in a few years, so probably do a similar comparison for a sedan. Normally I bus to work, but with covid, the parking deal I get from work is just too good to pass up, so probably will drive. The only difference is for commuter car I don't mind getting a second hand vehicle as long as it's got AWD and can start in -30C.

Personally I don't look good for Hongqi's E-HS9. The car looks impressive at first glance but the longer you at it, the more ugly you'd find it. I call it "immature design". On the other hand, Chinese cars that I feel good at are Hiphi-X, Nio ES-6, BYD Tang (2nd Gen).
