BYD's lack of gasoline cars is holding back its sales in Malaysia and Indonesia, which are oil producing countries.
that's not going to change.

If you insist on me getting hung up on these details, then I’ll have to break each one down and explain it clearly.

BYD’s popular models this year, the Sea Lion 06 EV and Song Ultra EV, are both priced between 160,000 and 190,000 RMB (the Song Ultra EV has an ultra-low entry-level price of 151,900 RMB, which we’ll ignore). These models come standard with the DiLink-100 infotainment system, which uses the 778G chip and features 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Meanwhile, last year’s models—including the BYD Han, Seal 07, Tang, Song L, and Sea Lion 07—which are positioned as premium vehicles, are equipped with the D100 (It is essentially a customized version of the 778G chip for in-vehicle systems).
None of those BYD models are premium. How can you be premium and sell for under 200k RMB?

For what they are getting priced at, D100 is entirely competitive with SD8155 platform, which is the typical infotainment SoC used by most competitors at this price range.
For certain vehicle models that come standard with the DiLink-100 infotainment system, an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) option is available, specifically the "Eye of the Sky B" system. Selecting this configuration will result in the installation of an additional LiDAR sensor on your vehicle, along with an upgrade of the infotainment system from DiLink-100 to DiLink-150. This upgrade includes a professional NVIDIA Orin-X ADAS chip, and the infotainment system chip will be replaced with a D9000 chip modified from a MediaTek chip. The memory configuration is upgraded to 4 GB RAM + 4 GB virtual RAM + 64 GB storage, with an additional 8+64 GB system.

What I mean is that while the 778G chip currently offers sufficient computing power, it severely lacks the potential for OTA updates. Meanwhile, although the D9000 chip in the DiLink-150 system is very powerful, the in-car unit has only 64GB of base storage, which means it is likely to be left without OTA updates in the future. Please note that the storage space used for installing software on the in-car unit does not support external expansion.

Due to the AI infrastructure bubble this year, which has caused prices for memory and storage chips to skyrocket, BYD has downgraded the storage capacity on most of its models from 256GB to 128GB. Typically, the infotainment system alone occupies 70–95GB of storage (the DiLink-150 system takes up approximately 33GB), leaving very little remaining space.
again, if you want to spend more money, you will get better infotainment system. If you do not, you will get worse infotainment system. There is absolutely not reason any automaker cannot continue to upgrade their infotainment system on older platforms while maintaining similar memory footprint. You can absolutely have builds intended for different infotainment hardware. In fact, it is normal to do so.

Again, here is Antutu ranking from 2024/8, cockpit computation platforms don't change that much. 128GB SDD is for the top end stuff and 64GB is quite common for the medium ranged stuff. 256 GB is rare.

If you are buying Song ultra (151.9 to 179.9k RMB), this is not exactly a price range for high end hardware.

if you think this is not enough for you, don't buy BYD. Stop wasting time complaining on SDF.

I have a 2022 model y and never cared about its infotainment space, ever. As long as it can get me from point A to point B comfortably, I have no complaints.

You know, this topic is really exhausting. I want to emphasize that the majority of BYD’s sales come from vehicles priced under 200,000 yuan, and the cost of infotainment system chips is actually not that high. Therefore, models in the 120,000 to 200,000 yuan range should be equipped with more powerful chips, larger memory capacities, and higher-spec storage cards to accommodate more OTA updates over the next decade (in fact, some Han and Tang models priced above 200,000 yuan in the past two years still use chips like the 778G and D100).
Given that I have previously articulated my stance on in-car system upgrades for electric vehicles on multiple occasions and provided reference data on BYD’s actual in-car system specifications for this year, while you maintain that the current chips in “mid-to-low-end” models are sufficient and exceed industry averages, I suggest we put this topic to rest. Let’s simply leave the relevant in-car system specifications here for other users’ reference and avoid further back-and-forth debate.

Honda’s CEO/President recently traveled to China to see how Chinese companies are churning out so many cars and supplies in such a short timeframe.

Emission reduced to zero over night, no chance for survival…

Even letting him come was either a blunder or a power move saying that you have no chance to replicate this and even if you told the US, they have no chance to replicate this.

It is not right to allow such foreign spies to roam about in all these superior Chinese facilities. They are going to steal trade secrets.

That's why I said it was either a blunder showing this to a competitor (he's not a spy if you invited him for a tour) or a power move by showing them something they simply cannot replicate and may not even be China's best to demoralize them.

The Chinese makers should consider taking over these Japanese makers when they still have some market value.
