In American cities, especially NYC, drunk people piss everywhere. This guy wanted to start shit over someone peeing mostly on the sidewalk, note when he was on the phone 4/5 other guys were already on the other side of the street. One of the other guys come to try to deescalate, he could've easily walked away - instead he just cusses them out. When the initial confrontation starts, one of the 5 guys deescalated and they were already leaving before one of the brothers pushes the belligerent guy (who looked like he was just picking up his backpack - the way he was picking up his backpack does not support the brother's claim of reaching for a weapon at all). Then they initiated an altercation, and from the video of the fight it looks like again, it's the other party that begins backing off and trying to create distance. At that point, the two brothers could've just both went back inside, the other party was leaving. Instead he grabs a sword and challenges them. At the moment he initially walks out with a sword, the 5 guys had already left the area outside of their property. The one belligerent guy is an idiot so he talks towards the brother with the sword, but the location where the brother struck with the sword is clearly at least 2-3 cars away from his property. The brothers had multiple opportunities to walk away, instead they kept escalating until one of them slashed someone with a sword.
Again, those 5 guys should have been charged, especially the one that was acting the most belligerent. Its a miscarriage of justice that they weren't - but the brother that swung the sword definitely deserved to be charged as well.
Everyone in the city knows, don't start shit if you can't back it up (without using as word). If it had been a middle aged white lady calling the cops on some kids for peeing on a building/sidewalk - she'd be labeled a Karen by half the country. Yes, American cities are shitholes filled with homeless/criminals/garbage/human waste - but you can't go around swinging swords at people!
