It's interesting about Five Eyes. Was it an official alliance but it says something that it excluded other Western allies. But because everyone references it now, I saw an article that the British are trying get everyone to look past Five Eyes claiming it was a passive intelligence sharing partnership and claim it was never an official organization because of course as more people focus on it, what's the reason why it exists when they have other Western allies that are not included. They're feeling the heat that more countries including allies are going to see Five Eyes as an antagonist to their interests.
To be fair, it never was 5 eyes, even if NZ was fully committed. Course (I'm not bring unkind. Just reality check). You can really count a nation little over 5 million on a equal footing with a nation of 300 millions.
It's like giving Montana state the same weighting as Texas in the U.S. election. The western MSM knows that. But it's a good sound bite that 5 nations is against the big bad China. Right.....
Its not a question of population size, Nz hosts one of the listening satellite dishes at Waihope Station. About 12yrs ago protestors damaged the radome thus putting the dish out of action. In their defence their lawyers claimed that the protesters did it"for the greater good". Much to the chagrin of the other 5 eyes members. the court found them "not guilty" and all charges were dismissed. I was still in the police at the time and was one of the first to turn up with the news of suspicious activity.
