Which is why it is imperative for China to maintain and improve their military capabilities. Elites don't want just any war, they want a war that they can profit from, and usually that means winning the war. If the US is unsure they can win a fight, they will not start the fight, at least not with their own hands. They will use any proxy they can manipulate though.
The most immediate danger is not direct war with China, but rather assaults on Chinese interests via regime changes and local anarchy. This means increased risks for Chinese operators in unstable countries in Africa, Middle East, and South America.
China needs to counter that by building stability in those regions. Southeast Asia would be right there on the above list if not for ASEAN. Of course India is the biggest American patsy right now.

That's a paradox. If a country becomes strong enough to threaten your hegemony, then chances are you will not be certain of victory in any armed conflict with them.

Right now the us is increasingly feel the only card they have left to play against China is its massive nuclear weapons
Now that us russia start treaty has been extended by five years, China must use this time window to build as many nuke warheads as it can

The notion that US will go to war with a peer adversary is very speculative one, and considering their history, even that speculation's mathematical probability is thin one.
I've seen people giving the example of covid. That example is dual use. The reason you are forced to accept covid casualties is because overwhelming & undisputed power of natre. In war scenarios it's irrelevant.
It's like saying because people know that you can die in road accident & still go out everyday is also the reason you are tough enough to serve in military.
As far as fake Americans are considered, I don't really much care who is elite & who is ordinary.
China needs to get their strategic messaging right, they are worse than Rwanda at that. If a single launch is detected, we will repaint native America with different colour.

They may try to go to war but they will end up taking on Russia and China at the same time because really the USA wants to destroy both China and Russia if it means staying top dog given all the USA has done to both nations. Hence they risk mutual destruction no matter what and really that scenario is a no go given how hard the USA is trying to get other nations to gang up against China since they are too chicken to fight a foe that can hurt them back equally if not more so and they want a good dose of that hero’s complex that they can never get if they start the fight first (I mean like at the Vietnam war) Hence why NZ are having second thoughts and the UK and AZ are only really capable of barking without really trying to bite because they know that if they anger China greatly enough, one DF missile can easily sink them both so really the USA is having a very hard time really getting anyone to start a real fight in there place. Besides, the year has only started and the USA has this many problems and the craziness is only getting started. Also, there are more of an incentive to bring the USA down since every where around the world would benefit if the USA reserve status is gone, since the world no longer have to lend the USA money to spend on war so that is a big plus. If the USA goes down, you can imagine that the governments in both the uk and az will do anything to avoid being the target of China and Russia, especially in a world where the majority have had enough of the Anglo saxons pissing everyone off with the white equals right business and hence the leadership will change to avoid incurring There wrath as everyone knows, the UK, AZ and Canada’s combined force cannot handle China alone and if RUssia comes in As well (I mean they have all given Russia the incentive to do so), well they are screwed. The USA wants to start the war with them as the protagonist and China as the absolute villains and the world cheering them on. Only problem is that China doesn’t start fights, they end fights.
