This is way beyond an investment deal. US and its lapdogs have built their empire through wars and bloodshed. Don't underestimate their resolve to preserve its hegemony.

The motive is much more sinister. The EU-China investment, China international image, China-Muslim countries relationship, and the foundation of new cold war. A lie repeats hundreds times would become the truth. At least average Americans, British, Australians and some Muslims would believe this is true.
But it shouldn't be over estimated either. Despite all the tough talking, US couldn't fire a single bullet to USSR during it's weakest time because they would've been vaporized.
They are going to fight for their hegemony without having to sacrifice their lives. Being dead won't do any good to them, they know that.
That's the biggest thing china should be worried about & countering, rest of it won't bring much result for them.

Only problem right now is that there is a limited window to create a war with the USA as the heroes because right now with each passing day, more and more events occur that is further eroding the power of the USA and right now if the USA dollar loses it world reserve status, it will be even easier to paint the USA as the villain that spent the worlds money and isn’t going to pay back ever and the rest of the eyes lack the courage to even dare to fight Russia and China and almost all of the other nations that hate the west together and needs to USA to protect them. With this the rest of the eyes will lose their will the fight once the USA loses the plot because as of now it has proven that the world needs China more then the USA which has now become a complete money sink, not to mention one very important detail is that the USA is more or less broke right now with the dollar losing more and more purchasing power and has already left most of the world to die against the virus (well they are not exporting there vaccines very readily right now nor have they been forth coming in helping other nations as of late) hence the 5eyes are looking like as though they are becoming more and more isolated instead.
Nobody is overestimating it. But the notion that US will never go to war with a powerful nation is mistaken. For them preserving global hegemony takes precedence over millions of American lives.
US is run by the elites and for the elites. Remember that in a war its not the elites who die. 600k dead from COVID and does anybody care ? Absolutely none not even the people themselves.
Exactly. Michael Pillsbury outlined Sino-US competition fairly well. I would suggest people watch some of his videos to get an idea of the US defense establishment's perception of competition with China. It is not just about a future decisive war where one party would destroy another. It is more so about the delta between growth in various areas that contribute towards comprehensive national power.
The implementation of forces favourable to US comprehensive national power will look something like increasing reports to erode China's international image to stall development of international relations, promote infighting, etc. It is already known that the US is trying to shift the attack from focused on CCP to Xi Jinping himself to hopefully evoke infighting when morale is low, resulting in better terms of negotiation in this competition.
One fundamental difference between developed nations and underdeveloped nations is the ability to weather one crisis after another and continue development. Most nations don't have this ability thus are stuck in the middle income trap or below. Resiliency is key and rare. A big part of being resilient is having the ability to coordinate resources to resolve the pressing issue(s) during time of crisis, relations within a group and with other groups are key in this process.

The elites pushing for war don't believe they will be at risk. The common people don't want war for now, but that's why the elites are trying to shape their views.
