The proper targets for a platform based Tik Tok ban are actually Google and Apple. For Android and iOS, respectively.
There should be no world in which the US can control what Chinese and like minded people use on their phones. Yet that is what the US can do right now via platform bans, since even today, virtually all Chinese mobile users use these platforms. The fact that Apple has actually managed to grow its market share in China to >25% in recent quarters is a huge risk given the company is the crown jewel of the US electronics industry and a major beneficiary of the Huawei and semiconductor bans against Chinese companies.
The Chinese government needs a way to get the population off of American platforms so they stop help funding the US and its allies’ chips domination.

Trump was never the cause of America’s wilful descent into madness, he was merely a symptom and inflection point, in that his rise was taken by the radical right as the signal that their time has finally come, that they can come out from the shadows and openly voice their true desires that they had to kept hidden up to that point.
The social ‘scientists’ of the left recognised this, which is why they are also trying to mainstream and mobilise the extreme left to try to boost their own base enough to withstand the rising right, such as with LGBTQ alphabet soup inflation trying to bring more fringe groups into their side.
As America’s internal culture wars heat up and escalate, so do their need for foreign enemies and crisis to distract and unite the two sides so the culture wars don’t turn into shooting wars at home.
