The proper targets for a platform based Tik Tok ban are actually Google and Apple. For Android and iOS, respectively.

There should be no world in which the US can control what Chinese and like minded people use on their phones. Yet that is what the US can do right now via platform bans, since even today, virtually all Chinese mobile users use these platforms. The fact that Apple has actually managed to grow its market share in China to >25% in recent quarters is a huge risk given the company is the crown jewel of the US electronics industry and a major beneficiary of the Huawei and semiconductor bans against Chinese companies.

The Chinese government needs a way to get the population off of American platforms so they stop help funding the US and its allies’ chips domination.

The moment Apple and Android ban’s TikTok is the moment they start to kill their own dominance.

Huawei has an alternative android App Store up and running, it just lacks the means to motivate enough of the western android users to take the tiny amount of effort needed to jump ship and download it. A TikTok ban would be more than to motivate the western young to do just that.

This is why a TikTok ban is only talk with no real action. The Americans would have to be extremely stupid to score such an epic own goal.

They might still do it, but joke’s on them if they do.

This practice of using political means to block the market has aroused the concern of radicals who believe that the use of force to expand the market in the future is inevitable, otherwise relying solely on the shrinking domestic market will not be able to compensate for the huge investment costs of semiconductor production.
Add: This view holds that technology is not the biggest obstacle. The main problem we face is that the market is basically controlled by the West, and the West can completely use administrative orders, intimidation, subversion, and blockades to threaten other countries to prohibit the purchase of Chinese high-tech products.
Putting the west to the dilemna of enforcing censorship and tanking their living quality or allowing their citizens to freely use Chinese goods and therefore pay China, is a necessary step in winning the cold war.

Concurrently, China needs to open up more and more, reduce domestic restrictions and keep its living quality, especially its education, strong.

Science is the key to winning, and never has a generation in the East been so well educated and skilled compared to the one in the West, as the teenage generation today.

The ones that are beating America in science today are not that generation, because those are still in school. Its the less educated 30-50 yrs generation.

The US is a master at using sanctions to encourage “useful idiots” (ie domestic Chinese companies whose main market advantage is “I’m not sanctioned!”). If Douyin gets banned, Kuaishou may get all the business without Chinese users having any major disruptions, as you’d sooner switch an app than switch your phone or side load a platform.

This is how the US operates globally to influence the success and failure of companies. All in an effort to create more “useful idiot” companies and less actual, competent competitors like Huawei and Byte Dance.

Chinese government policy should be directed to counter this strategy by directing all
profits from “useful idiot” companies into the national champions so that they can’t become effective US collaborators.

The idea of national champions itself is an American, oligarchic, corporatist way of thinking.

This line of thought comes from the fact that most western champions are irreplaceable because they have revolving doors connection to the government, these companies also gained most of their clout by cheating the market through government connection, directly profiting off government actions which they lobbied themselves.

In contrast, Chinese companies are not protected any more than the basic extent of the law, which is made with impartiality and not designed to favor any particular company.

This meant that China had many many more failures than the West, but those companies that did survive in the natural selection, are there not because they're connected with oligarchs, but because they're genuinely that strong, in terms of personnel and innovation.

Hence, what makes China's civilian sector strong is not that it has invincible national champions because the government is good at feeding them, but because the workers which make up each company are on average of exceptionally high quality.

As long as this core group remains, China can maintain the most competitive products, no matter if they're from an old or new brand name.

Everyone one uses google maps and apple maps, no one in the US will jump. Huawei would not even let me install their store the last time I tried.

The reality about Free Market Capitalism was always about American capitalism and dominance. The capitalist in silicon valley knows that their advantages are starting to slip, so they are now in attack mode

Downloading the Huawei App Store doesn’t delete Google App Store or stop you from using Google apps.

i misread and thought you were talking about using harmony os instead of android/apple.

I think the US will go full crazy and prevent financial transaction between tiktok and local companies. So it wouldnt make sense for tiktok to want to keep the mass american audience since they will just be wasting money on bandwidth/servers.

Bytedance keeping the tiktok brand and having it used worldwide, especially in europe and canada will make the US look like the fool. Honestly, they should just pull out of the us market and the US will have to use even more unhinged demented reasons to go after it.
