No. How are you going to wipe those bases off the map permanenetly without using nuclear weapons? Besides, China isn't crazy enough to go that far.

Depending on how Beijing sees this development. If there still remain benefits and interests for China to invest in the Philippines, then I think China would follow through. Although, this may come with certain limitations, reduction in scale of the investments, and/or asking for more concessions from the Filipino side.

My only hope is that, in this case, Marcos did realize that this would eventually happen and clarified his position and reasoning with Xi during his visit to Beijing early last month. If Manila can make sure Beijing understands that the Philippines is being forced by the US to do the above actions, then I don't think China would go smack-hammering on the Philippines.

However, if Marcos didn't make this clear to Xi beforehand and/or now, and/or Manila did intend for this to happen as putting an up-yours to Beijing, then we already know how the story would go.
Bro an insight, IF China act like the US do, then we in the global south are in trouble, instead of one bully we have two. :( The fact that China act differently is a breath of fresh air and let's be reminded that the Philippine hadn't officially agree on any of American demand. So it's much ADO OVER NOTHING, All the talks are coming from Western MSM and it's local mouthpieces RAPPLER. I think we should know the context of what the American wanted, an enlargement and extension of EDCA (The Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement ) which is set to expire this year. We hold the cards, we can revoke the VFA (Visiting Force Agreement) rendering those agreement null and void, without the manpower to operate those pre positioning of equipment

MANILA – The Department of National Defense (DND) said construction projects under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) between the Philippines and the United States are scheduled for implementation at the agreed locations in 2023.

DND spokesperson Arsenio Andolong, in a statement Tuesday, said USD66.5 million is earmarked for the construction of EDCA projects in the approved locations within the next two years.

"The projects include construction of training, warehouse, and other facilities at Cesar Basa Air Base in Pampanga, Fort Ramon Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija, and Lumbia Airport Base Station in Cagayan de Oro," he added.

Andolong said the DND is committed to accelerate the EDCA by concluding infrastructure enhancement and repair projects, and developing new infrastructure projects at existing EDCA locations.

This also includes exploring new locations that will build a more credible mutual defense posture.

"The Philippines and the US have maintained dialogue to discuss the implementation of the Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) and ensure that it remains relevant to address contemporary security challenges. Through the Mutual Defense Board (MDB) and Security Engagement Board (SEB), both sides continue to discuss and collaborate on projects under EDCA," Andolong said.

He added the DND remains consistent in its position that all engagements with the US as well as other foreign partners must be conducted in accordance with the Philippine Constitution and other national laws.

"The Department is focused on planning joint activities that will enable us to develop our individual and joint capacity to address current security challenges in line with the implementing details provided by Philippines-US defense agreements anchored on the MDT. With the progress in Fort Magsaysay, Basa Air Base, and Antonio Bautista Air Base (in Palawan), the Department hopes to be able to complete other pending projects," Andolong said.

Finalized after eight rounds of talks in August 2013, the EDCA which was signed in 2014 allows US troops access to designated Philippine military facilities, the right to build facilities, and preposition equipment, aircraft, and vessels, but rules out permanent basing.

Under the EDCA, the Philippine government is working with the United States to build the future facilities in Cesar Basa Air Base in Floridablanca, Pampanga; Fort Magsaysay Military Reservation in Nueva Ecija; Lumbia Airfield in Cagayan De Oro; Antonio Bautista Airbase in Puerto Princesa, Palawan; and Benito Ebuen Air Base in Cebu.

Earlier, Armed Forces of the Philippines chief-of-staff Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro said the US has expressed interest to build five more EDCA facilities. (PNA)

The EDCA is effective for an initial period of ten years, and thereafter, it shall continue in force automatically unless terminated by either Party by giving one year's written notice through diplomatic channels of its intention to terminate the agreement (Article XII, Sec.

If this leaked plan is true, then BBM is truly a moron. Imagine destroying relations with the world's premier economic superpower right next to your country in favour of.... american soldiers. Soldiers who commit crimes and bring nothing economically.

Heck, they don't even bring anything militarily. Those bases will be the first to get wiped out by Dongfeng once war starts. And it gives China an excuse to occupy your country once it defeats the US in any Taiwan engagement.

I am sadly not surprised at all.

Olivia Atkocaitis, now 19, was adopted from China at the age of 14 months in 2004.

The abuse allegedly began when she was 3, with her being tied to a metal column with a dog leash, as per WMUR.

Olivia said her parents, Thomas and Denise Atkocaitis, built her an 8-by-8-foot room in their home’s basement, which is described in the suit as a “dungeon.”

She would reportedly spend the next several years locked up.

The Atkocaitis family had three biological children. They lived in a four-bedroom, 4,300-square-foot New Boston residence that sits on 27 acres of land next to a state forest, as per New Hampshire Union Leader.

Olivia’s dungeon allegedly had only one window, which was secured with chicken wire. She used a bucket for a toilet, causing their home to smell, according to her siblings.

Olivia was allegedly freed from her dungeon to do multiple chores, including tending to farm animals and massaging her mother.

The suit says she repeatedly attempted to escape as a child, but local police would always return her home.

However, it all ended in 2018 when she managed to escape.

Thomas and Denise were subsequently charged.

Denise pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child endangerment and received a minimal jail sentence, while Thomas pleaded guilty to felony criminal restraint and avoided jail altogether.

Given the current way things are going, I wouldn't want to be in the UK in the next couple of years, because not only the two nations, Russia and China are now sworn enemies of the UK due to the UK not knowing when to STFU about its past history and such, but it should know very well that the USA is a cowardly nation that will never stick up for its allies, I mean they are now looking for ways to fu@k off from Ukraine like they did in Afghanistan and all those other places they were in. So really, the UK is not in a position where many more nations then the 8 countries against China in the earlier 20th century, are going to looking at some serious payback (I am talking about the middle east, Africa and South America, all victims of colonialism) and I bet no nation is going to bother wanting to help that worthless nation.
President Xi, please send Y-20 transport plane full of Jiaolong commando paratroopers to rescue us from this shithole of an island

Brexit costs UK over $124 billion annually – analysts

The split with the EU has led to weaker business investment and worker shortages, according to Bloomberg

The UK economy is continuing to lose billions annually following Brexit, according to an analysis by Bloomberg Economics released on Tuesday.

The report states that the British economy is currently 4% smaller than it might have been had the country stayed within the bloc, and has been losing roughly £100 billion ($124 billion) a year after its exit from the EU in 2020.

Did the UK commit an act of economic self-harm when it voted to leave the EU in 2016? The evidence so far still suggests it did. The main takeaway is that the rupture from the single market may have impacted the British economy faster than we, or most other forecasters, expected,” economist Ana Andrade, who co-authored the report with Dan Hanson, said.

The analysts say that the UK’s economic performance started to differ from that of the rest of the G7 countries after the 2016 Brexit referendum. They say this was caused by a drop in business investment as companies have been very cautious with spending due to uncertainty about their future outside the single market. According to calculations, the UK’s business investment currently stands at about 9% of GDP against the G7 average of 13%.

Economists also blame Brexit for the shortage of workers, which also impacts the UK economy. They estimate that there are currently 370,000 fewer EU workers in the country than there might have been if Britain hadn’t quit the bloc.

Scarcity of labor adds to inflationary pressure in the short-term and constrains potential growth further out,” the economists wrote. “That’s not good news for an economy facing bleak long-term prospects, with trend growth of a little over 1%.”

So far, the impact of Brexit on trade has been less significant, the economists said, but warned that “over the longer term, we would expect trade to bear the brunt of the impact of leaving the single market.

US military to gain expanded access to Philippines bases in efforts to counter China

The Philippines will provide the United States with expanded access to its military bases, the two countries said Thursday, providing US forces with a greater strategic footing on the southeastern edge of the South China Sea close to self-ruled Taiwan.
The newly announced deal will give the US access to four more locations under an Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) dating to 2014, allowing the US to rotate troops to a total of nine bases throughout the Philippines.
Speaking during a visit to Manila Thursday, US Defense Secretary Llyod Austin said the US and the Philippines remained committed to strengthening their mutual capacities to resist armed attack.
“That’s just part of our efforts to modernize our alliance. And these efforts are especially important as the People’s Republic of China continues to advance its illegitimate claims in the West Philippine Sea,” said Austin, referencing China’s increased presence in waters close to the Philippines.Austin did not give the location of the bases to which the US military will gain new access.
China warned of heightened tensions in the region following the move. The Philippines allowing US access to four defense sites on its territory has “escalated tension in the region and endangers regional peace and stability,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Thursday.
“Out of its selfish agenda, the US side has held up to the cold war. Regional countries should remain vigilant about this and avoid being used by the US,” Mao said.
Thursday’s announcement follows a spate of high-profile US military agreements throughout the region, including plans to share defense technologies with India, and plans to deploy new US Marine units to Japanese islands.

Philippines, U.S. Announce Four New EDCA Sites

The US military also has a sense of humour
The addition of these new EDCA locations will allow more rapid support for humanitarian and climate-related disasters in the Philippines, and respond to other shared challenges.
