TBH, I am not sure the swarm boat threat was as big a deal as it was made out to be and was pretty much confined to one theater.
I disagree a little as Out side of Iran and the Persian gulf, a hellfire would end a African and Asian pirate ship weal quick. And remember the Uss Cole

USS Cole was in port: you're not firing a Hellfire when docked. That was a port security issue.

Have we actually had pirates attempt to attack a naval vessel?

57 mm Bofors is supposed to take care of pirates' and terrorists' vessels using fancy (and expensive LOL but that's me) munitions
off top of my head, there's an incendiary available (against a wooden boat), there's a pre-fragmented available (to 'injure' personnel of a FIAC) etc.

Modern ammo is not as cheap as it used to be. Especially when you add guidance. Besides if the boat is on the stern and the gun is on the bow.

Actually Dito.

As to the second part not if they are sane but my point wasn’t defence my point was offense. If you are a FFG(X) doing counter Piracy And you know these are the Blackbeard wanna be’s why not give them a taste of Hellfire?

what I meant was it's 5k per pop and the gun is fast firing LOL could be 200k burst (there're "two 20-round cassettes" ready to fire, I've now checked)

Besides if the boat is on the stern and the gun is on the bow.
then an LCS would need to turn, I guess

plus they could use Bushmasters (note I'm reacting to what you said in #2161 which was pirates and terrorists)

When in port, docked, its highly probable you have equipment and people not in safe places for a suddenly needed hellfire launch.

Helicopters and CUSVs plus the 57mm are a better solution (and cheaper) for boat swarms.

why bother?
it's the configuration the Pentagon could've ordered almost a decade ago, and now it looks like it's offered again:

so? tell me why the Pentagon operates unarmed LCSs instead
I've been following this LCS circus for years, I've read most of texts on it available in Internet, chest-thumping, detractors, official, whatever,
and I just don't know
