When in port, docked, its highly probable you have equipment and people not in safe places for a suddenly needed hellfire launch.

Helicopters and CUSVs plus the 57mm are a better solution (and cheaper) for boat swarms.
Helicopter flights are hardly cheap but generally you are not supposed to be fighting well in port.
Still the point is that was not a swarm it was a boat making a assault.

numbers first so it could be easily checked:
the width of the ship is known to be 32 m; using the PhotoShop ruler below (22.8 - 1.4)x, x is about 1.5, as 32/(22.8-1.4)=1.4953;
the length of the area I sloppily "cut" (26.6 - 18.2)x, so the length is about 8.4*1.5 = 12.6 meters;
the width of the area I sloppily "cut" (14.6 - 9.8)x, so the width is about 4.8*1.5 = 7.2 meters

I leave out the question of how many Mk41 eight-cell modules (about 6.7 meters long, don't know how wide, but not much) might fit in that space and how,
as it's irrelevant

You guys asked why not to fire a hellfire in port and I mentioned the reason. The whole USS Cole situation was bad port security.

You brought up the whole Cole thing in reference to the swarms.

I then meant to state better for dealing with boat swarms is the gun, the helicopter or a CUSV. It was implied with a 'when not in port.'

For Jura, a CUSV:

I brought it up to show what a small craft could do. Was the security a joke? Yes but it doesn’t need to be a swarm to be a threat.
Is firing in port a good idea? No but if the ship comes under attack you do what you have to.

does it exist except in that link?

You're kidding, right? Googling 'CUSV Textron US Navy" comes up with numerous links. :)

The US Navy gave the first contract for them circa 2012. They have a handful now and are being used in an R&D fashion. The PLAN has some equivalents they are testing as well.

However, this is moving into a USV discussion rather than LCS. However, the LCS can carry at least a couple since they are the same size as the semi rigid boats they are equipped for now. Is there a thread for Unmanned Surface Vehicles?
