If it is it seems stupid in the extreme.

India was no match for China on its best day, and with COVID running rampant, now is a completely moronic time to go out looking to start fights they cannot hope to win.

What would be the game plan here? Get the masses whipped up and firstly they will take to the streets to protest and demand war. COVID superspreader events nationwide.

When the Indian government inevitably stops short of actual going to war, they will riot. More COVID superspreader events.

There is just no upside I can see to doing that for India.
If you are Modi and at risk of losing the election, anything you can do to shift the masses away from the grim reality of massive Covid sick and dying will be a positive. What is good for India is an abstract concept. What is good for Modi is immediate and vastly more important.

Modi should do the sensible thing for his nation and lose the election or step down. I honestly think a Congress leader would do better on the Covid and social stability front WHILE ALSO managing India China relations without playing those games like Modi has. Modi started off okay but half way through, he just did a surprise 180. We know China isn't the one with foreign powers whispering in its ear. So what could have happened around 2017 with Modi.

The question is whether China truly went too far with building up but the crisis was in motion as soon as Doklam drama happened.

Next India federal election is a few years away. When the time comes, people will forget about COVID and Modi regime will convince the voters the whole thing is China’s fault. It is the nature of democrazy.

Not a feature of democracy. That is the nature of a dysfunctional democracy that has slowly somehow removed all mechanisms for review and accountability. The Indian organisations tasked with those things are thoroughly corrupt and even the Indians themselves have at least (to their credit!) exposed and reported on the corruption and shilling of their own instruments to hold leaders accountable. China doesn't operate on this level instead its accountability of leaders is measured to stability and progress... foreign disruptions notwithstanding.

Unfortunately many democracies are actually like that. Since it's easy to corrupt organisations and people but hard to prove things with tangible results such as objective metrics like China does it. Ideally one has both in place and genuinely honest and incorruptible people in place at every level but that's unrealistic particularly for poorer nations where people still don't have the best living standards.

Australian democracy is just as tainted and so evidently the case. Fortunately voices are allowed to be heard (as they are in China actually but not to the same degree) but due to racism and tribalism among most of western societies, the majority group doesn't care and consider pushing the coloured folks down as a virtue. They'd rather be seen as the saviours and the superior ubermensch than allow the rest of world to catch up and develop ... without looting, enslaving, murdering, and outright stealing of everything land to tech, while destroying other civilisations and cultures. The British murdered Indian industry experts and burned down Indian industries so they can't compete with England. Nowadays it's brain drain and economic warfare to keep the poor in poverty and try desperately to push down those that are beginning to stand up. Thankfully for China it had incorruptible characters like Mao to establish foundations. Weaker politicians would have easily become corrupted and now China would be a western vassal no more developed than India is today since that was roughly the starting point.

Not colonel, he is a first lieutenant.

Maybe he'll be promoted to colonel the next time the Jawans try something stupid.
