China is an under militarized nation relative to its economic size, even with its modernization and buildup.
2020 military budget is 1.268 trillion yuan while the 2020 GDP is 101.6 trillion yuan. Military budget is 1.25% of GDP, it's been consistently around 1.3% since military reforms in the 1990s. Its similar to under militarized nations like Germany and Canada.

If China spent 2.5% of GDP like India, the 2020 military budget would be 2.54 trillion yuan ($390 billion USD at current exchange rate). Unlike the Soviet Union, China isn't directly engaging in an arms race with the US. It's main strategic focus is still economic development. Its overall economic size enables it to not be stretched thin like Russia and Turkey when pursuing geopolitical goals. I would expect China to gradually increase military budget as a percentage of gdp once the main developmental goals are achieved but still nowhere near the gdp percentage of other nations with strong military forces.
I just watched an amazing video over the YouTube:

India's retaliation against China continues.

"The dragon fruit will be known as "Kamalam" in Gujarat as the original name "is associated with China", Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said on Tuesday"

Only the weak and hopeless will try something as trivia as that to 'punish' someone. Like in the past, when a much weakened Qing dynasty began calling westerners 'western ghost' (洋鬼子)and their army 'tiger god army' (虎神营), but fundamentally, the internal problems still persist...

"洋鬼子" actually translated into "foreign devils" and calling your adversary as "devils" has more meaning than mere disdain.

India gotta try harder than that to piss China off. That's just too cheap. So cheap that anyone can also play this game of renaming food away from "association with India".

We could try renaming Bombay Onions to "Yellow Onions". Or rename Masala Chai into "Spiced Tea". I could imagine how outraged the Jai Hinds and BJP idiots are gonna be when they see those kinda headlines.

If China would be a NATO nation, Trump would be complaining that China is spending too little on military.

Another Indian media take on the same Chinese village story. This summary of sub-headlines best summarizes the article:
Village Inside India.jpg

China entering 60-70km into Indian perceived territory is quite some distance. The average 'width' of Arunanchal Pradesh is roughly 140-150km according to Google Maps.

Arunanchal Pradesh average distance.jpg

Off-course, the actual layout of Arunanchal Pradesh (AP) is much more complex. But for layman's POV, lets see what if BJP Tapir Gao's claim is taken as correct. That China is building that village around the halfway point of AP. That's would be quite deep into Indian claimed territory of Arunanchal Pradesh. If China were to use that village as a border point, that would split AP into half across its length. There is a lot of Indian settlements who could be falling into Chinese territory. Tawang would fall right inside China's territory. LOL! Although I would agree to China doing this. I doubt that China would do something this provocative when tensions are so fever high. Those are not no-man's-land. Those are populated areas.

If you're on the side on India in this dispute, that must be alarming. That could have provoked a war. But all we hear is silence from the top leaders of India. So more realistically, I suspect that this village is not that deep into AP. Probably its on the edge of northern AP from the Chinese side. BJP Tapir Gao merely extended India's claim 60-70km into China. That greedy SOB. Its probably their typical media spin. Not unusual, since they have claimed before that all of Tibet belongs to India.
