According to the Indian media the Chinese soldier would be treated well and sent back. Which should be commended. I feared that the soldier could be paraded to score cheap political points. But no such nonsense, so that's good to hear.

Maybe it's because Indian soldiers captured in the past by the PLA have been treated well. Or maybe they know the not to push the PLA too far.

But still, this is an Indian media news. So I need to see how this story develops.

They can't. It's combination first & third point.

They can't parade anything because that would be pushed too far even for fantasy stories. There was no clash so Bollywood movies can't be made on "war". And there are no political points to prove given the rebuttal is already ready. Remember the last time Indian soldier got captured by their western neighbor? Pretty sure they will be up in arms if indians make that claim, Lol.

This is where their throat is actually in middle of 2 edge of same sword.

I think China should play the mind game here. They should thanks indians for returning the soldier while reminding them what could have happened if he wasn't returned. ;)

Commended my ass. China sent back 60+ POWs without much fanfare. They were pretty much all sent back by the time the news even reported they were captured. That's what the Indians should be reminded of.

What kind of idiot soldier goes off by himself to find a yak at a time like this? What happened to all the drones that could have been sent to search for it? If it was a valuable asset, an armed team should have been sent to recover it after it was located by drones. He deserves a demotion at least.

It’s stupid, but the Yak probably just ran off and he chased after it thinking he could just grab it and be back in a minute.

Also, it’s odd for PLA soldiers to run off on their own like that. It may well be that he isn’t actually a solider and is just a semi-militia frontiersmen who China normally rely upon to patrol the boarder.

Also it is noteworthy that I cannot seem to find any details on where this soldier is supposed to have been taken (unless I’m just being blind and not seeing it). China and India have a long boarder, this could have been from an area far from the flashpoint where things are more or less as they have been for decades. China cannot have crack troops patrolling the entire boarder after all.

Grab what? He couldn't see it. If he saw where it was and went to grab it, this couldn't have happened. If he stayed within a few minutes of his team, this couldn't have happened. There was probably clamor about a lost yak that ran off some time when nobody was watching and he likely thought he could be a hero if he could find it and bring it back. Everyone would be like, "Oh, you're such a Leifeng! You spent all night in the blistering cold and you found it, saving us many drone hunts and manhours!" (Or maybe nobody wanted to search for it mid-conflict. It's just a yak; get another one if needed.) So infatuated with that fantasy, he searched far and wide for the yak until he had no idea where the hell he was and got picked up by an enemy team. Imbecile. There is no excuse; he's a disgrace to the PLA. If he has any career left in the military, he should be severely demoted and punished.

Well the yak could have just kept running away as he got close. But right now we don’t have any information other than what the Indians are saying, which cannot be trusted at face value. I say we need to hear China’s story before marking any conclusions as we are just blindly speculating at this point.
