PL-21/XX is in the same class as the R-37 and AIM-54

Not really. You need to factor in the ramjet, which boosts kinetic energy in the terminal phase. How much it would add to the equation will of course be classified, but the enemy will not be able to ignore it, and that's what really matters in BVR... forcing the enemy to take evasive action disrupts their attack.

PL-21 doesn’t have a RAM jet. It uses a dual pulse system like the PL-15.

Are we sure of this? I've read contradictory opinions on this issue but I would think the ramjet is going to be needed if it's competing with newest its NATO counterparts. I'd be surprised if it doesn't have.

Fair enough. Let's assume that's the case for now.

That can make it harder for PAF to acquire the PL-15. Which makes me more apprehensive.

Not necessarily. When PL-12 was the best that China had it was still exported to Pakistan. Also, a smaller missile with same envelop as the PL-15 (so six could fit into J-20's bay) are being developed and may enter service when Block IIIs are ready.

I dont see any reasons why Nigeria woudnt buy an advanced fighter jet. A country as big as Nigeria needs to have a proper conventional force.

So while Boko Haram obviously remains a priority, Nigeria will not stay put with just drones.

Better to get the fighter jets and use them to bomb Boko Haram in order to get experience for its pilots, doctrine, operations, logistics etc

So they would have a ready training opportunity with bombing the terrorists. The drones will remain the most used platform but the fighter jets will compliment them and also get operational experience

That's exactly what i was getting at. Nigeria isn't buying the JF-17 to fight just Boko Haram. I was replying to the following post:

What could the JF-17 do against the Boko Haram that the Wingloong/CH-3/4 couldn't?

And I wouldn't be surprised if Nigeria ends up procuring a couple of dozen given how affordable the Block 2 is.

Whats the price difference between a J-10 and a JF-17? If Argentina are only interested in buying a few surely it would be worth getting the J-10 for a little more.

Don't think China have sold any J10's to any country so far or it may be off the menu.
