The last question (I actually know the journalist in person) to the VP of AVIC:

When we can see the Chinese-made Engine used in the FC-1?

He answered: Soon, very soon. In fact, the development of the Chinese-made engines is in progress. To be frank, you will see a satisfactory result in one or two years.

Block III is supposed to come out in 2016, so in context we can guess that WS-13 would be ready for deployment. Allegedly it has already been in testing on FC-1 for a number of years now.

But WS-13 must have something superior to RD-93 in order for PAF to make a switch. I wish I could speculate, but I know next to nothing about WS-13.

BTW how credible is the source being quoted? Can some Chinese friend care to tell me?

I am hoping to see JF-17 with its targeting pods to enable surgical strikes this year

Block II will come in many different weapons configurations

Not the least is the CM-400 AKG equipped "carrier killer" roles

Looks like the recent Iraqi visit to PAC has paid off all visitors to PAC are always very impressed

Iraq has previously bought 44 tracked vehicles and 60 security vehicles from Pakistan in 2006

This deal is for 20 Super Mushshak trainers spares and training for $94 million, further orders for artillery, UAV and mortors can be secured

Personally I think Pakistan is a great source of weapons and equipment for Muslim country's but we all know that militray sales are actually dictated by politics and not actually the militray requirement, otherwise Saudi would have bought the Al-Khalid MBT years ago

Having said that I believe Egypt has big requirement and can really order 2-3 Sqaudrons of JF-17 units would be a good asset along with K-8

Block II has all tha avionics upgrades to carry all the weapons for all the roles so I am not suprised Block I did not go for export

With refueling and wide operating envelope Block II will get exports no question about it, plus know we now have the joint marketing and sales agreement committee with the Chinese this will facilitate better enquirys for JF-17

What we did in Dubai air show we need to do more of, PAF and CATIC was there together with PAC and CAC makse for a good team along with the display

Well if that is true (abt saudi defence delegation coming to Pakistan), then it certainly doesn't make any sense to me. When in the same month (February), they will also be giong to india to sign a Defence Cooperation Pact with Pakistan's enemy. Certainly not the sort of thing you'd expect, considering if you are to be potentially procuring Military Hardware from Pakistan. As the proposed defense pact will allow shared use and exchange of defense-related information, military training and education as well as cooperation in areas varying from hydrography and security to logistics.

Seems to me that saudis wanna play both sides, like most western countries have done in the past.
