Re: New JF-17/FC-1 thread
You have a point there, but fighter planes are high Maintenance weapon of war. As they age, their Maintenance skyrocket after 20 years. (example: F-14D was retired way before they were obsolete). Since FC-1 is half the cost of J-10, they can buy thunder now and retire it 15-20 years down the line and buy another plane in 2025 that cost around 15 million dollar, a plane thats more capable than J-10 that is.
If jet fighter's Maintenance after 25 years isn't as expensive, I would agree with you. really!
Also PLAAF really need money for multiple project like H-8 and J-xx, I have never seen PLAAF spend as much on R&D ever. Tip of the spear offensive is important for PLAAF right now, most of them are based in Fucheng if you know what i mean.
If I say too much it would be considered political LoL.
Meanwhile, PLAAF cauld buy more J-7g and wait until J-10 cost 20 million in (2010 estimate), because of emphasis on 4.5-5th generation fighter/bomber.
mainland defense on the backburner since sino-russian diplomacy had improved.
