only the F-22 is operational most fifth generation jet fighters will be operational after 2025 and F-3 will be by 2030.

Shinshin has domestic engine with TVC nozzles but F-35 will be deployed first, before F-3

you are right, but J-20 will be operational in 2017/2018 and PAK-FA in 2017 .. so which other most 5th generation will be operational after 2025? are you talking the Indians and EU?

I am sure you do know the diff of demonstrator and a prototype ? in this case X-2 is 1/3 of full size ... more like a model :(

Russia at the most will have 12 + prototypes T-50s by 2020.
By that time Japan will Have F-35s and USAF and USA navy F-35s deployed.

China i do not know what type of engine it has on J-20, but i know J-31 has RD-93s which make the J-31 pretty much just a bluff, J-20 i do not know what engine it has, no TVC it has for sure, supercruise? i do not know, but Japan will have F-35s + F-22 they are not in a hurry as long as the USAF has bases there and they have their own F-35s, plus contrary what you think XF-5 is quiet advanced see
Thrust-to-weight ratio, which shows the performance index
F-15 F100 engines: 7.8
XF5-1 engine of Sing Sing: 8.0
F22 F119 engine: 9.0
F35 EJ200 engine: 9.2

@b787 ... nope Russian PAK-FA will operational in 2017 and J-20 in 17/18. Perhaps initially J-20 might be powered by foreign engine, but it doesn't make it is not 5th gen :p

F-35 is Americans, not Japanese

Back to your statement in 2025 ... which 5th gen ?

I don't really want to be off topic too much ;)

I do not think you get what i say, the XF-5 has the thrust to weight ratio of an engine like F-100, it is very light but very powerful, the Japanese are going the cheap way and thinking not on a 5th generation fighter, but a 6th generation fighter, the XF-5 is not a primitive engine as you perceive it.
Upon a limited budget the Shinshin designed a jet engine based upon the XF-7 but with the thrust to weight ratio higher than a F-100 or even WS-10, do you get it, the aircraft is a scale down version to cheapen the tech demostrator.

You think it is behind, so tell me what Chinese engine has 9:1 ratio? XF-5 has 8:1 so if you power a smaller and lighter aircraft you have the same performance of a J-20 powered by Al-31, do you get it now?

True the ADT-X has no weapons bays, but it has the basic technologies of a fifth generation fighter

Besides the airframe, which to be fair to Japan is early days of development and so significantly scaled down and without internal bays baked into the structure, what basic 5th Gen technologies is the ADT-X equipped with? AESA? EOTS and other distributed sensors?

@b787 ... you are the one who doesn't get it. We are talking about 5th gen fighter. True ... engine is a big part but many many others as important

you haven't answered my question regarding your claim that most of 5th gen will be only operational after 2025 ... which ones? ... if you couldn't back it up ... just admit it

There is a strong reason why Japanese still use foreign engines and radars on their jet fighters .... :p

the information i have read, is it has avionics or at least basic ones to be tested, the engine already is testing TVC nozzles, but to be fair the F-3 is to be deployed it by 2030, but it will be not a 5th generation but a 6th generation similar to what Europe is doing now
