Re: New Generation Fighter

Looks like someone is regretting the recent transparency.

you never know, it could be real.
earlier there was an article that suggests China should not simply adhere to the US or Russian standard of categorizing fighters. they should come up with their own standard in accordance with their practical needs. so maybe instead of 4S PLAAF will get 4 something else LMAO

Re: New Generation Fighter

Well here's an "official" confirmation from the PLAAF on top of the official comment from General He Weirong. Posted on CDF blog.

Ok so that changes things. It says that the J-XX is basically based on the improved J-10. Is that the J-10B, or the twin engined J-10 which we heard about for a little while (but never say anything conclusive of), or are they just backpedalling and giving out false information to confuse us about what they are actually doing (like they have been doing for the previous few decades).

If we assume that the J-XX is going to be based on the "improved J-10", then what exactly do they mean? Can anyone clarify the statement a bit?

Re: New Generation Fighter

But J-10B already flight test for many times, why say 4th generation fighter first flight will be soon? we just watch the video that clearly say the 4th generation fighter like F-22 style, two man talk in the video, one is PLA major-General , one is PLAAF Colonel

Re: New Generation Fighter

The J-10B will be ready for mass production before 2012. Either they regret the transparency and are trying to confuse us, or there is another J-10 derived fighter in development.

Frankly, I find it hard to believe that they would build a twin engine J-10, to me, a twin engine J-10 is essentially a whole new plane. It would be easier to develop the plane from scratch then to try and modify an existing airframe to take on a whole new role.
I agree. There was an article about China's 4th gen plane a few weeks ago in which a US analyst or engineer said something along the lines of "the chinese will find it extremely hard to make a 5th generation fighter based on the J-10".

I personally think the article is just trying to confuse people because they think the PLAAF general revealed too much.

Well by the looks of of some the renders that have come out along with this recent talk of the J-XX, it does look like they're leaning towards a delta design. Some of them do look like an advanced J-10. And what about all that talk that the systems on the J-10B will be tested for the J-XX? I think this can be interpreted many different ways and not just along the line variant of the J-10.

Re: New Generation Fighter

yup, the only reason why american experts say it would be hard to make a J-10 style 4th gen is because they are looking at it against the American standard for 4th gen, namely the 4S. however the Chinese have explicitly asserted their desire to set their own standards. so the new 4th gen may put more emphasis on some aspects and less on other ones. cant rule anything out yet till a credible photo evidence of the new 4th gen design has been revealed to public

hmm, this looks like nonsense. Xinhuanet has shown in the past to release plenty of unreliable news regarding to PLAAF. If you read the things they said in the second paragraph, it's clearly wrong. The third paragraph is something you'd never see PLAAF or AVIC1 say. To me, this article is completely garbage.
