Re: New Generation Fighter

thanks airsuperiority and siegecrossbow.

I join due to frustration of not able to see attached pictures! Then some topics are just too interesting for me not to participate.

Maybe I should post a formal introduction in the new members section. I have to say this forum maintains high standards compared to others and the atmosphere foster good discussions.

(ps you did checked my profile right airsuperiority? The underscore doesn't show unless you mouse over it :D Not that I mind lol)

Yes that will be a good idea. Popeye will also link you to the rules if you do that so you can avoid this :nono: in the future.

Oh I didn't go click your name, but it's cause forum accounts aren't allowed to have spaces unless underscore. Anyways, good to see a bad "noname" gone and a good one come in

Maybe through something similar to this? :

In the pic you can see the first plane has a scoop like thing on the DSI intake. If that scoop can be extended and retracted around the DSI bump you get a opening with varying cross section area.

Something similar may be possible for side intakes.

Just my guess and I'm not an expert.
btw my first post, been lurking around for some time and hopt to learn more from this forum.

cheers.

i dont know if its just me but if you look closely, the difference in height from the bottom of the cockpit to the tip of the scoop intake is different in the 2 planes. the second one has a much bigger opening than the first. is this the adjustable intake that has been mentioned?

Yes good observation. no_name noticed that too! Does anyone know if any other jet fighters have this feature or is this a Chinese innovation?

Unfortunately, I believe this is either because that particular pic was PSed, or the angle the picture was taken altered the inlet's geometry. Either way, no form of adjustable DSI exists (the technology has only been used in three planes so far).

What are the "three planes" that you are referring to? If there is precedence to the adjustable DSI (regardless of whether it is popular or no) there may be some credence to the theory that it may appear on the J-XX.

I meant that there have only been 3 planes that have used DSI, and none of them are adjustable. The three planes are the F-35, the JF-17, and the J-10B.

These are prototypes, no two prototypes are the same. If there is a difference in the size of the intake, it's because they were testing different intake sizes.
