there were no anti-china skeptics on this thread for once, so it felt kinda a bit too out of place, so both me and asymptote decided to imitate them and play their part for them until they return.

the more i think about it, the more i feel that the J-20 was readied much earlier ago than december 2010. the fact that it's not in yellow paint means it probably had flown in its yellow stage earlier prior to this, so in a way, the J-20 may not be just a simple prototype, but a product very close to operational status.
yeah that's been the rumour on the net recently...and i agree with your theory. given the delicacy of this project and the conservative tradition of the Chinese they most likely already did one or possibly more Russian engine flights before this one...this is more like a bureaucratic procedure for the bosses...sorta like a way to suck up to them or something like that lol
Yes, I am more and more convinced we will see J-20 enter service by late 2012. USA might have a new president by that time. Taiwan might have a new "president" by that time. Both of these might be more anti-China.

China has hidden the J-20 program from foreign intelligence very well. The first time they learn anything about it, it's almost entering service.

According to the news reports, SecDef Gates is to meet with Hu Jintao this afternoon, so it's kinda like:
"You want openness? There you go."

Now I guess the happiest outside China is Lockheed Martin, it'd help big deal with their F-22A sells pitch.

Wishful thinking, perhaps or perhaps not. Taiwan is actually very pro China right now and its people are enjoying the chinese customers and how easy is it for them to export their products into the Chinese market. At this time and age, it's rather silly to go anti Chinese. Most important thing is the economy and quality of life for the people.

Some folks have ownership issues!

Didn't you start this thread, dude?

No, I did not, this thread was started few years ago, it just got too long and the mod had to truncated it.
It just happen my post was the first one of this truncated thread.

I was in time to wait for the action the other few days but not today!

I notice the J-20 prototype flew with the landing gear down. Does it mean that it's indeed the first flight? You would expect the landing gear to be retracted if they've already done first flight testings.

The other interesting thing is there's not even a trace of black smoke in the engine exhaust!
