Chinese planes are lower down the pecking order when it comes to prestige

As it's American, Russia, some Europeans countries( like Rafaele, Typhoon etc etc) than China

Do the millitary experts think that this is a fair assessment of Chinese air industry or this is incorrect as China has improved with time

And if it has improved what can China do to enhance it's prestige or at the very least show to the other countries (especially buyers) that it is at the very least equal to European, Russians

It has to be a a novel design with abilities that far exceed the fighter jets of today - demonstrably.

Otherwise, it's like asking for validation from your rivals and competitors. Not only is that going to be in vain but it can lead to further jibes and taunts. The plus point of Chinese military complex, for the time being, seems to be scale.

As time goes by, new aircrafts will debut - with novel concepts and abilities. It'll stand against detractors and collect its fair share of admirers.

Do remember how Japanese military equipments were seen prior to WW2 or the reception of Soviet Military technology during Cold War.

Haters gonna hate.

Tbh Russians are probably more hated than the Chinese (in MSM)

But they're respected even more than the Europeans because they have proven themselves at least in public imagination

So while bias is a valid argument but it doesn't encapsulates the whole issue of prestige among the buyers

But I agree as time goes on part but for that to happen you'll need to export some A-, B grade planes to other countries in order to battle test it and increase its prestige over time

Two problems. i) Chinese military aircraft industry only recently lost dependency on foreign components for modern aircraft. ii) Chinese aircraft are not combat proven. Just look at how French Rafale did not sell for many years until they bombed Libya then orders followed.

If mere ground bombing is the requirement for a air superiority fighter jet to get the title of "combat proven", China can get that title with relative ease. The bar is in the basement here.

Very few 4th or fifth gen aircraft has engaged in combat that tests its limit.

China has other means to tests and verify its systems - looking at performances of the export military products. Pakistani JF-17 is a good example.

And look they're selling out so the bar is low

But they're specifically used and designed for PAF because of that they're a great catch for medium sized countries who are looking for cheap aircrafts without blow to quality

But they're not used by the PLAF which limits it's cieling

Yes it's easy and bar is low to "start" the sales

Actual prestige rises when more countries start using your equipment

Ofcourse it doesn't have to be J-20 but as more and more J-17, J15,16 are sold to as many countries the prestige will rise

But needs to give countries a label of "combat tested"

So when Air force go to thier governments they have some reasons on thier PowerPoints
